The deaths of a Polish woman and her 7-year-old son last week following their plunge from a Baltic Sea ferry travelling from Sweden to Poland was not an accident, a preliminary investigation by Danish authorities has found.The case was being investigated as a possible murder, Swedish prosecutors said on Friday.The case had been handed over to the police, the public prosecutor and the Danish Maritime Authority for further investigation. A Polish woman and her 7-year-old son have died after plunging from a Baltic Sea ferry travelling from Sweden to Poland, a Polish police spokesman said on Friday.Swedish authorities said on Thursday the child had fallen off the vessel and that the mother proceeded to jump overboard in an attempted rescue. The two were later winched to a helicopter and taken to a Swedish hospital."Unfortunately, in the morning we received information from the Swedish side that we have to pass on this terrible news to the family, because both the boy and the woman are dead," police spokesman Mariusz Ciarka.Swedish police could not confirm that the mother and child had died.

On May 24, Stena RoRo delivered Stena Estelle, the first of two ordered extended E-Flexer ferries to Stena Line. The vessel will operate on the Karlskrona – Gdynia line.In total, Stena Line will be operating five E-Flexer vessels, with two of them being the extended version. The fourth in the order has now been delivered. Compared to the basic design, the ferry has been extended by 36 meters. With the extension, the ferry is 240 meters long and has an increased capacity of 50% more cabins, 30% more passengers and 15% more cargo.

Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, a global provider of expedition cruises and adventure travel experiences,  and Norwegian shipbuilder and ship designer Ulstein Group have celebrated the keel laying of Lindblad’s second polar new build at the Crist shipyard in Gdynia, Poland.The occasion also served as the official naming ceremony of the vessel. It is named as National Geographic Resolution,  in honor of Captain James Cook.Captain James Cook was the first to circumnavigate Antarctica, cross the Antarctic Circle, and the first European to reach Hawaii. The Port of Gdansk Authority (PGA) has signed an agreement with a consulting company, which will support the construction of the port basing on a public-private partnership model.DS Consulting - is a company, specializing in advising public entities, which has signed a cooperation agreement with the PGA. The company has 21 years of experience in this market.PGA said that the proposed Central Port concept in Gdansk is the largest planned maritime investment in Europe.The Central Port will be a complex of 6 to 8 terminals and deep-water quays used for different purposes. Approximately 410 hectares of seaside land will be used to operate terminals of various types, including areas for containers, passengers, offshore operations, LNG or shipbuilding facilities.

The biggest annual gathering of Poland’s maritime industry leaders, the Maritime Economy Forum Gdynia is unveiling its program.The day-long event, now in its 19th year, takes place on October 11 in Gdynia, featuring 30 speakers with 600 senior figures from Poland’s maritime sector and around the world expected to attend.Forum chairman Slawomir Kalicki said the conference will see a morning session examine some of the biggest issues facing the international maritime sector, worth an estimated $3-$6 trillion a year, from an EU, Baltic Sea and Polish perspective.

Chinese state-owned shipping and logistics services supplier company COSCO Shipping Lines announced a new COSCO feeder service from St Petersburg, Russia will begin calling at DP World Southampton."COSCO is to introduce a new weekly call at DP World Southampton, as part of a rotation including St Petersburg, Russia; Kotka, Finland; Southampton, UK; and Rotterdam, Netherlands," said a press release.The news comes after COSCO confirmed in February that DP World Southampton will be a permanent call on its feeder service. Sweden's Port of Gävle will be included on the rotation of the newly launched Unifeeder Sweden-Poland Service.According to Yilport Gavle, this is the first commercial feeder service ever to directly connect the Swedish east coast to Poland with a weekly service.The service will start from Gdansk and then call Gdynia, Gavle, Norrkoeping, and back to Gdansk. Sweden’s new signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel was launched from the Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Gdynia, Poland.Outfitting and equipment installation will take place in Nauta Shiprepair Yard, after which the vessel will undergo harbour and sea trials.
