Reimelt Named Head of GE Power Conversion

Stephan Reimelt has been appointed as president and CEO of GE’s Power Conversion business, succeeding Joe Mastrangelo who becomes president and CEO of Power Generation Products for GE Power & Water, GE Energy Management president and CEO Mark Begor announced today. Power Conversion is at the heart of generating cleaner and more efficient power for multiple industries. Ge said it is a growing business, operating in 160 locations worldwide, with more than 7,000 employees. Under Mastrangelo’s leadership the backlog grew more than 70 percent in four years to reach $3.5 billion, being a crucial cornerstone for what will become a $13 billion Energy Management business when combined with Alstom Grid Solutions.

GE Tech Enables Shore to Ship Energy Feed

GE Energy Management has signed a contract with French electrical engineering company Cegelec in Brittany, France to supply a complete static power solution for the French Navy. The solution will use GE’s Static Frequency Converters (SFCs) technology to provide high conversion efficiency and a safe and reliable power transfer from the electric power grid to the French naval vessels while in port. “To keep vessels charged fast and on time, the French Navy requires a reliable and stable supply of electricity. GE’s converter technology allows an efficient and secured transition of energy,” said Thierry Bideau, Lead Engineer, Cegelec. The public grid in France operates on a frequency of 50Hz and must be converted for use of electrical systems on board of French naval vessels…

GE Acquires Panametrics

GE Power Systems announced that it has acquired Panametrics Inc., a global leader in high-technology ultrasonic testing equipment and process control instrumentation. The company will become part of GE's Energy Management Services business and will be known as GE Panametrics. Panametrics develops highly specialized, harsh-environment sensors and instruments for nondestructive testing, solar radiation detection and process measurement instrumentation. The company's products include process control instruments; moisture, chemical and gas sensors; multi-phase flow meters; charged particle detectors; ultrasonic transducers and scanning systems for a wide range of applications.
