Polish-Built Longliner at NorFishing

In June of 2013 the Polish Shipyard Poltramp had begun construction of a 20.99 by 8.5-meter longliner for a Norwegian customer. In August of 2014 the new vessel, having completed successful fishing trips, travelled to Trondheim, Norway for exhibition at the Nor-Fishing trade show on behalf of Poltramp. Nearly 15,000 visitors from 48 countries visited the 2014 edition of the show. While attending the show, with the Cummins Marine display, Jon Folkedal, Cummins Norway Marine sales manager, took the opportunity to visit on board the M/V Grotle.

MacGregor Launches Steering Control System

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, presents a new addition to its Hatlapa product range: the steering control system, Hebe. It will be offered as an integrated part of the company’s Hatlapa range of steering gear solutions and its inclusion will deliver operational and equipment compatibility benefits for customers. The name Hebe for the steering control system follows the tradition of naming Hatlapa’s steering gear products after Greek gods and goddesses, Hebe is the goddess of youth.

Smaller Operators Excel in Polish Shipyards

The huge yellow gantry cranes, cavernous sheds and slipways of the Szczecin Shipyard dominate the Port of Szczecin. At one time, 10,000 workers toiled to built as many as 21 deep-sea ships per year in this sprawling edifice. Today only a fraction of that number, perhaps 1,500, work for a diverse group of small independent marine companies who lease space in the shuttered shipyard. Where the huge state-owned corporation was unable to make the transition to EU membership and the global economy…
