Ponath Takes Full Control of NSB

Helmut Ponath, founder and long-time managing director of the German shipping company NBS Group, has taken full control of the company.Since 2000, the shareholders of the Buxtehude-based NSB Group have consisted of four owners: Conti NSB Holding, Gebab Holding, Norddeutsche Reederei Holding and Buxriver. In December 2021, the four shareholders signed the contract to transfer their all shares to Ponath's Buxriver."In doing so, they are handing over the company to the one that has always been most involved in the operation of the shipping company.

Wärtsilä´s Orderbook Strengthens

Wärtsilä Corp. has reported a healthy increase in orders for Sulzer RTA-series low-speed engines to be manufactured in the group's Trieste factory in Italy. This year orders have been booked for 16 such engines with an aggregate power of 351.7 MW for delivery to European shipyards. Together with Sulzer low-speed engines, the factory builds a wide range of four-stroke types from the Wärtsilä 26X through the Sulzer ZA40S up to the Wärtsilä 64 type. Since the factory came under Wärtsilä management in 1997, considerable efforts have been put intomaking the factory more competitive, not just within Europe but on a world basis. The first order this year was for four Sulzer 7RTA72U-B low-speed engines for the German shipyard Aker MTW Werft GmbH in Wismar on the Baltic coast.

Container Ship Launched at HDW-Gaarden

Tomas Marutz and Dr. Walter Klausmann (both CEOs of HDW-Gaarden), the godmother Georgina H. Rodriguez and her husband Gustavo Rodriguez (CEO and president of the Maruba Group), Helmut Ponath (CEO and President of NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. On September 8, the first of a series of five 2,700 TEU container ships was launched and christened Marupa Europa in Kiel at HDW-Gaarden – a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. The launch was performed by Georgina H. Rodriguez, CEO and president of the Maruba Group. mbH & Co. KG, Buxtehude. The ship had already been handed over to the shipping line the day before. Upon request of the shipping line, the ship was handed over earlier than scheduled. The remaining four ships will be delivered by the end of 2008.

Nordseewerke Launches 2,700 TEU Ship

A 2,700-TEU containership – Yard No. 554 – was launched last month at Nordseewerke GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Stystems AG. The final outfitting of the ship will last until the end of November, when the ship will be delivered to the GEBAB in Meerbusch. The 2,700 TEU ship will be run by the MARTIME shipping company in Elsfleth. Yard No. 554 is the seventh container ship of the 2,700 TEU series, and an eighth -- Yard No. 555 – will follow before the new 3,400 TEU class will be started in the autumn of this year. The container ship was built according to Germanischer Lloyd regulations. The 37,900 dwt ship measures 215.5 x 29.8 m with a 10.1 m loaded draft. It's container capacity is 2,702 TEU, driven by a power plant generating 21,770 kW at 108 rpm.

Daewoo Shipbuilding Wins Orders Worth $280m

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said its shipyard in Romania has secured $280m worth of new orders to build four container ships for two German clients. Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries will build two Panamax carriers for Gebab Holding and another two for Conti Holding by October 2009 under the deals, its Seoul-based parent company said. The latest contracts would boost business performance in the Romanian shipyard in Mangalia, acquired by Daewoo Shipbuilding in 1997 and turned around into profitability in 2000, the parent firm said. 2,700 TEU Containership Launched at B&V

A 2,700 TEU containership built at Blohm+Voss, which belongs to ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, was christened Cosco Panama. Godmother of the ship was Anja Berlien, wife of Dr. Olaf Berlien, Chairman of the Board of Directors at ThyssenKrupp Technologies AG. GEBAB (Gesellschaft für Konzeption und Betreuung privater Investitionen mbH, Meerbusch) is the ship’s owner; Maritime GmbH is the ship’s manager. Cosco Panama is particularly significant in that it is likely the last time a containership will be launched from the Blohm + Voss yard. ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG made the strategical decision to have Blohm + Voss concentrate on the construction of large-scale yachts and naval vessels.

First Order for New Containership Series

Nordseewerke GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, received to new orders for a 3,400 TEU container ships. These orders mean the development, design and building of a new generation of compact container ships with a capacity from 3,100 to 3,700 TEU. The contractor of this order is the GEBAB, which is based in Meerbusch. A total of 28 container ships have been delivered to GEBAB since 1987, and 11 additional ships are still to be built by the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems’ shipyards based in Emden, Kiel and Hamburg. The owner of the two new ships is the shipping company Martime GmbH in Elsfleth. This new order has been made possible by an additional collective labour agreement between the business management and the works council of Nordseewerke, and the IG-Metall union as well.
