General Dynamics Contibute $0.5 mi to CIMVHR

General Dynamics Canada is proud to announce a contribution of half a million dollars over three years to support the work of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR). The contribution will fuel research into understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of operational stress injuries (OSIs) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) thereby enhancing the lives of Canadian military personnel, Veterans, their families and their communities. The $500,000.00 contribution is designed to support the partnership between CIMVHR and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (The Royal), and support capacity building within both organizations.

General Dynamics to Upgrade Peruvian Navy Helicopters

General Dynamics Canada has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to upgrade four SH-2G Super Seasprite helicopters with an integrated mission system to enhance the operational capability of the Peruvian Navy and its ability to meet the demands of modern maritime missions. The contract, facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC), the Government of Canada's international government-to-government contracting organization, includes the acquisition of five helicopters by Peru. Four are for remanufacture and upgrade by General Dynamics Canada and the fifth one will be overhauled prior to delivery directly to Peru. EDGE Facility to Develop, Deliver Security Capabilities

Center in Nova Scotia will focus on rapidly delivering new technologies and capabilities to the Royal Canadian Navy as they transition to future fleet. General Dynamics Canada announced the opening of the 17th EDGE facility in the EDGE Innovation Network. The new Undersea Warfare EDGE Innovation Centre in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, will become a vital resource that brings Canada’s top naval technology suppliers together with academia and government to develop leading-edge, operation-enhancing capabilities for the Royal Canadian Navy and ally naval fleets around the world as they look to reestablish critical capability in the face of new threats.

Portuguese Navy Orders Sonar System Upgrades

General Dynamics Canada is installing an adjunct processing system on three VASCO DA GAMA-class frigates of the Portuguese Navy. Designed by General Dynamics Canada, the ECLIPSE adjunct processor provides the in-service AN/SQS-510 sonar systems with enhanced operational capability to detect submarines and torpedoes. "General Dynamics Canada has a 40-year history of providing and supporting underwater systems and components to navies around the world. As the original designer and manufacturer of the AN/SQS-510 hull-mounted sonar system, we are pleased to bring new capabilities to this valuable and trusted system," said David Ibbetson, vice president, General Dynamics C4 Systems International.

BMT Fleet Technology Names Byrtus President

Darcy Byrtus

BMT Fleet Technology Ltd., a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd., an international maritime design, engineering and risk management consultancy, has announced the appointment of Darcy Byrtus as President. Darcy joins BMT from General Dynamics Canada where he held the post of Director of Business Development for Naval Programs and Project Management. There, he was responsible for the strategic planning, opportunity identification and pursuit for all naval programs and for the promotion of General Dynamics’ capabilities to the Canadian Department of National Defence.

Seaspan Shipyards Ranked As A Top 10 Defence Company in Canada

The long-awaited awarding of the contract to construct the new series of Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), a series that could total 60 ships worth $14 billion over 15 years, will have to wait just a little longer. GD Canada Wins $128M Contract

General Dynamics’ Canadian subsidiary, General Dynamics Canada, was awarded a contract valued at $128 million by the Canadian Department of National Defense to supply and integrate a new data management system for the CP-140 Aurora, Canada’s long-range maritime patrol aircraft, as part of the ongoing Aurora Incremental Modernization Project (AIMP). Under the contract, General Dynamics Canada will supply a new mission computer, integrate upgraded sensors, and provide ground facilities and logistics support. The General Dynamics-designed data management system will provide the enhanced capability and flexibility required to allow the CP-140 Aurora to fulfill its surface and undersea surveillance roles. Work will be completed in Ottawa and Halifax.

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works a $9 million contract to develop a preliminary design for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). With a focus on affordability, LCS will provide the Navy with the capability to defeat terrorist swarm boats, mines, and diesel submarines prevalent in coastal waters around the world. Bath Iron Works leads an international team that includes General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, General Dynamics Canada, General Dynamics Electric Boat, Austal USA, BAE Systems, CAE of Canada, Maritime Applied Physics Corporation, and Qinetiq of the United Kingdom. The team will further develop its trimaran concept based upon Austal's innovative, high-speed commercial ship design.
