Osiris Projects Launches New Survey Vessel

MV Proteus

Specialist seabed mapping company Osiris Projects has this week launched the fifth vessel in their fleet, the 14m GRP catamaran MV Proteus. Designed to provide an excellent working platform for coastal survey operations, MV Proteus can work up to 60 miles from a safe haven under MCA Category 2 and has a maximum speed of 24 knots. The vessel benefits from a shallow draft of just 1m making her ideal for inshore operations, while the hull design ensures exceptional maneuverability at both low and high speeds and incorporates a low drag profile providing excellent fuel economy.

Seismic Business Link-up: Mitcham's Seamap & PGS

Mitcham Industries' marine equipment manufacturing unit, Seamap, has signed a manufacturing agreement with a subsidiary of Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). Over the past several months, Seamap and PGS have collaborated to develop PGS SourceLink, a customized and proprietary marine energy source controller based on Seamap's GunLink 4000 system. Under the terms of the arrangement, Seamap will manufacture and sell the PGS SourceLink systems to PGS, as requested. Guy Malden, Executive Vice President of Marine Systems of Mitcham Industries, stated, "We are delighted to have established this new relationship with one of the leaders in the marine seismic business.

Chinese to Build its First Polar Research Vessel

The world’s move north to the Arctic for the exploration of energy resources has attracted global attention of Arctic and non-Arctic states. The newest player: China, which last month announced its plan to design and build its first ever Polar Research Vessel. The plan has been organized by State Oceanic Administration (SOA),China, Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA)  and the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) to build a new icebreaking research vessel to meet the country’s increased need of polar scientific research.

Aker Arctic to Design Chinese Research Icebreaker

A plan has been organized by State Oceanic Administration (SOA),China, Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA)  and the Polar Research Institute of China (PRIC) to build an advanced new icebreaking research vessel to meet the increased need of polar scientific research. The new vessel will be equipped with advanced scientific equipment for polar oceans research. The integrated survey systems include marine geological and geophysical equipment,  marine biological and ecological instruments. Meanwhile, helicopters with associated systems will also be provided. For the integrated environmental science programs the vessel will have marine and atmospheric observing and sampling capabilities closely related with climate change monitoring.

CGGVeritas to Acquire Wavefield

CGGVeritas (ISIN: 0000120164 - NYSE: CGV) announced today it will make a voluntary exchange tender offer for 100% of the shares of Wavefield Inseis ASA ("Wavefield") (OSE: WAVE). Wavefield is a Norwegian pure-play seismic company which operates a fleet of 8 vessels and develops geophysical equipment based on fiber optic technology. In the third quarter 2008, Wavefield revenue was $110m, and operating income was $37m. The transaction strengthens CGGVeritas' fleet capability with immediate access to five recently equipped high capacity 3D vessels. The additional complement of three mid 3D and 2D Wavefield vessels increases overall fleet management flexibility.
