Intellian to Design and Supply User Terminals for Viasat Maritime

Maritime Data Usage Soars, Inmarsat Says

Inmarsat's Most Powerful Satellite Enters Service

Mobile satellite communications company Inmarsat confirmed commercial service introduction (CSI) of its newest, most powerful geostationary satellite to date. GX5 is the 14th satellite currently in service with Inmarsat and provides additional capacity to Europe and the Middle East on the Fleet Xpress (GX) Ka-band high-speed satellite broadband service designed for the maritime industry.The satellite, launched in November 2019, delivers approximately double the combined capacity of the entire existing GX fleet (GX1-GX4).

Satellite Operator Orders Orbit’s Maritime Satcom Platform

Orbit Communications Systems Ltd., a provider of precision tracking-based communications solutions and airborne communications management systems, announced that a global NGSO (Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit) satellite operator placed a repeat order worth $645,000 for its OceanTRx 7-500 Ka-band maritime satellite communications platform. Delivery of the system, which will provide continuous broadband connectivity via satellite aboard cruise ships, is expected in 2017. “We put a lot into our relationships and deals like this prove it,” commented Eitan Livneh, Orbit’s CEO. OceanTRx 7 is a maritime satcom platform supporting a variety of 2.2-meter stabilized antenna system configurations in C, Ku, X and Ka bands.

Cambridge Consultants Completes Iridium Radio System Trials

Cambridge Consultants completes new trials on Iridium-based global push-to-talk radio system; Successful trials of new components of US Department of Defense Distributed Tactical Communications System. Cambridge Consultants, a technology design and development firm, today announced it successfully completed initial trials with Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IRDM) of new key components of the world’s largest push-to-talk (PTT) radio system – the US Department of Defense (DoD) Distributed Tactical Communications System (DTCS). DTCS enables soldiers in isolated areas to communicate without the need for ground infrastructure – and in locations where they often can’t pick up a geostationary satellite’s signal unless they move to higher ground.

Telenor Expands Use of Intelsat Global Satellite Capacity

Intelsat announced that Telenor Satellite Services expanded a multi-year contract with Intelsat to include transmission services on three different spacecraft in C- and Ku-band. The capacity is being used for Telenor’s Sealink maritime high-speed data communications solution through its Eik Teleport in Norway. Through this agreement, Telenor renewed its contract on the Intelsat 903 and Intelsat 704 satellites for C-band capacity connectivity in the Atlantic Ocean Region and Indian Ocean Region respectively and in addition began using Ku-band capacity on the Intelsat 907 satellite for North Sea and Atlantic Ocean distribution.
