New Head Office for GL

During the past three weeks, the Hamburg staff of Germanischer Lloyd (GL) - numbering more than 1,600 - have moved to the new Head Office at Brooktorkai 18 in Hamburg's HafenCity district. With this relocation, the company is bringing 14 separate sites in Hamburg together all under the same roof. At its new Head Office, the globally active technical assurance and consulting company and ship classification society will concentrate and focus its business segments Maritime Services, Oil & Gas and Renewables. From the Head Office in Hamburg, GL directs a worldwide network of currently 6,800 engineers and experts in over 80 countries. The new GL Head Office spans two construction sites offering an office space of 45,000 m² - equivalent to seven soccer fields.

EPE to Prep Hazmat Inventory for Ship Recycling

Environmental Protection Engineering S.A. (EPE) attends to prepare the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for the entire Reederei Thomas Schulte fleet (33 container vessels) according to the new IMO Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (Hong Kong Convention). Reederei Thomas Schulte GmbH & Co. KG also signed a contract with Germanischer Lloyd AG about the certification of the IHMs. The Ship Recycling Convention adopted at a Diplomatic Conference in Hong Kong (May 2009), aims to improve standards of safety and reduce environmental pollution from the recycling of ships. Changes in GL’s Executive Board

Rainer Schöndube, Member of the Executive Board at Germanischer Lloyd AG, will conclude his tenure at the classification society based in Hamburg on 30 September 2007. guests came to his farewell at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hamburg. At the beginning of Schöndube's career, in 1980, Germanischer Lloyd had 535 employees. Today, over 4,100 employees in over 76 countries work for the classification society. During this period Germanischer Lloyd's newbuilding orderbook rose from 1.1 million GT to over 24 million GT. The Fleet in Service which Germanischer Lloyd monitors has grown since 1980 from 16.5 million GT to over 70 million GT. The number of ships under regular supervision has nearly doubled, and currently totals more than 6,300 units.

GL Announces Managment Changes

Rainer Schöndube, Member of the Executive Board at Germanischer Lloyd AG, will resign from office leaving the management on September 300. He will, however, stay affiliated with Germanischer Lloyd as adviser. With his retirement Schöndube, who has been responsible for the commercial field and the Industrial Services at Germanischer Lloyd, gives way for a change in the Executive Board. On September 1, 2007 the Executive Board of Germanischer Lloyd will be extended by Dr Joachim Segatz. Dr Segatz will take over Mr Schöndube's finance division. Dr Segatz studied Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on aircraft construction and fluid mechanics at the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany.

GL Executive Board and Supervisory Board Reject Takeover Bid by BV

The Executive Board and Supervisory Board of Germanischer Lloyd AG advise their shareholders to reject the acquisition offer by Bureau Veritas. It would neither meet the needs of the Society and its 3,200 employees, nor be in the best interests of the shareholders themselves. After due examination and assessment of the purchase proposal, both bodies of the Society have issued a joint statement to the shareholders, detailing their reasons for rejecting the offer. The risks of the envisaged takeover by far outweigh any possible benefits. Executive Board Member Rainer Schöndube. The Supervisory Board too advises against accepting the offer.

GL Appoints New Executive Board Member

On 7th February 2003, the Supervisory Board of Germanischer Lloyd AG appointed Dr.-Ing. Hermann J. Klein (45) as a member of the Executive Board with effect from 1st September 2003. Dr. Klein will succeed Dr. tech. Hans G. Payer (64), who is to retire as of 31st December this year after over 10 years of service on the Executive Board. After completing his A-levels, Dr. University of Hanover. University of Hamburg-Harburg. Lürssen shipyard in Bremen, in 1995 Dr. Motorenwerke Bremerhaven AG, of which he is currently the Chairman. As from 1st January 2004, the Executive Board of Germanischer Lloyd will be composed of Dr.-Ing. Hermann J. Klein and Dipl.-Kfm. Rainer Schöndube.
