MPR, MPS ISO-9001 Certified
Maritime Propeller Repairs BV, together with its sister company Maritime Propulsion Services BV, acquired ISO-9001 certification. During an audit by Bureau Veritas, both companies proved to have their affairs well arranged. On July 2 Marcel Arends, senior lead auditor at Bureau Veritas, came to MPR’s workshop in Drunen. He had been at the main office in Zutphen a month earlier, and now it was time for the MPR-workers to receive their audit. Living up to his motto, ‘severe but sincere,’ he submitted the heart of MPR, its workforce, to a rigorous inspection.
Maritime Propeller Repairs Certified for In-Situ Welding
Maritime Propeller Repairs BV (MPR) obtained a DNV-GL certification to perform propeller repairs using in-situ welding, the company announced today. Netherlands-based MPR is now the only company certified for vertical welding on propellers. Most repairs on propeller blades require the removal of the propeller from the shaft, which necessarily includes the removal of the rudder, a time-consuming and costly procedure. MPR developed techniques that allow the welding operations on propeller blades to be performed without removing the propeller.
MPS Holds Open House
There was record attendance at the Maritime Propulsion Services BV (MPS) open day on May 23 when more than 200 delegates from shipyards, classification societies and workshops around the world gathered together in Drunen. Apart from the four propellers which were in the workshop for repair, on display were some of the latest developments in quality control as well as repair procedures and technology. These included state of the art nondestructive ultrasonic techniques to inspect either for porosities in bronze castings or weld repairs on propeller blades.
MV Danio Undergoes Much Needed Repairs
The MV Danio has certainly had some adventures this year. In March she hit both the BBC and the ITV British news channels when she went aground just off the Farne Islands, an environmentally sensitive area just off the coast of Northumberland. Bad weather made attempts to free the ship impossible for a tense ten days. The Farne Islands is home to puffins and seals, and the M/V Danio was carrying 27 tons of diesel fuel and 1,500 tons of wood. Finally, on March 28th, she was pulled off the rocks by the tugboat Lomax.
UMC and MPR Join Forces
Worldwide underwater ship maintenance specialists UMC International and Dutch based marine propeller repair specialists Maritime Propeller Repairs (MPR) have signed an agreement to cooperate for workshop and in-water propeller repairs. The agreement was signed in Asperen, The Netherlands on 23rd September 2011, at an open day hosted by MPR. More than 300 visitors attended the event, and all were very enthusiastic about the new joint service. Alan Trevarthen, MD UMC, and Gert Hendriksen, MD MPR, signed the agreement in front of local press and shipping company representatives. Established in 1972, UMC has an extensive network of office locations around the world from where they offer a global underwater engineering vessel support service.
