Forum Subsea Technologies has officially launched Tomahawk, the latest addition to its range of multi-role remote operated vehicles (ROVs). Tomahawk has been built to be fast and agile and it shares the same 35kw power system and thrusters as Forum’s largest electric, the Comanche. It is manufactured by Sub-Atlantic, a product line of Forum Subsea Technologies, at its facility in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Comark Corporation, a designer and manufacturer of custom computer solutions for the marine and military markets, expanded its portfolio of MIL qualified computer and display products with the availability of the EnduraShock™ 1900 Operator Interface Panel. The EnduraShock 1900 is a bulkhead-mounted modular computer and display unit designed to meet military specifications. The display is a 250 NIT, 19” diagonal LCD. An optional 1000 NIT LED backlit LCD is available for sunlight readability. Both display options are available with resistive touchscreens.

DRS Systems, Inc., Parsippany, N.J., is being awarded a $22,343,848 indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed price contract, for the acquisition of various quantities of Repair Station Consoles (RSC) for installation on U.S. Navy Surface Combatant Ships. The resultant contract will also call for the furnishing of incidental technical support services for the required equipment. The required RSC will be utilized in the DDG-M Backfit Program. The RSC's will be installed throughout the ship as part of the Machinery Control System (MCS). The RSC's will communicate over the shipboard Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) network. The supplies/services will be ordered during a 60 month ordering period.

The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] won a $4m U.S. Navy contract to provide a ship-wide communications network for two guided missile destroyers (DDG) now under construction. The contract, awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va., calls for Boeing to supply the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) information transfer system for the DDG 111 and 112 destroyers. Boeing will deliver electronic components over the next 12 months to support shipbuilding schedules. Under a contract awarded in 2007, Boeing continues to support the installation and checkout of the Fiber Optic Data Multiplex System (FODMS) for DDG 110.
