Kongsberg to Equip Mystic Cruises Newbuilds

Kongsberg Maritime said it has won contracts worth approximately 300 million NOK ($32 million) to equip three adventure cruise ships, with a fourth to follow, for Portuguese cruise company Mystic Cruises.Built by WestSea Viana Shipyard in Portugal, the vessels are to be used for expeditions in the polar regions.The 126-meter, 9,300-metric-ton luxury craft will join an existing trio of sister ships to bring the fleet to seven identical vessels, the first of which – World Explorer – entered service in 2019.

New Eco-friendly Expedition Cruise Ship in the Works

Rolls-Royce said it has signed a deal with WestSea Yard, part of Martifer Group, to equip an expeditionary oceanic cruise ship for Portuguese based cruise company Mystic Cruises. The vessel, to be called the MS World Explorer, will be the company’s first expeditionary oceanic cruise ship. The MS World Explorer will offer expeditionary cruise itineraries in Antarctica from November to March and this new vessel’s inaugural Antarctic season is already fully chartered to, and being distributed globally by, Polar Cruise Company Quark Expeditions.

Saga Cruises’ Newest Vessel Undergoes a Makeover

Saga’s newest vessel, the Sapphire, has undergone a makeover. Saga relied on Knud E. Hansen A/S for their design package to Classification Society and Flag. As part of the process, significant parts of the upper decks have been altered or retrofitted; this includes new cabins with balconies, changed restaurant lay-outs, and installation of elevators to allow disabled people to access all areas of the vessel. Hansen A/S evaluated the vessel prior to the purchase for structural integrity, stability, safety and fire protection. “Our engineers have often visited the shipyard in Italy during the refit to monitor the progress,” said Giuseppe Tringali. “There has been a close cooperation with yard, interior designers, and classification society through which Knud E.
