Tanker Trends: ATB Construction Forges Ahead …. Just Not at Torrid 2002 Pace

Construction of Articulated Tug Barge units (ATB) continues to occupy a prominent place in the order books of several shipyards. However the pace of current building and back ordered units is not as high as the 2000-2002 period. "It looks like we are in for a little 'breather' for a while," said Allen Craft, senior vice president of Intercontinental Engineering-Manufacturing Corporation, Kansas City, Mo. The company manufactures Intercon, one of the most popular couplers between the tug and the barge, which makes the ATB concept workable. Linking Fast Ferries into the Public Transport Network

Located along the mid coast of the Northeast U.S., New London, Conn. has long been a center for ferry transportation dating back to the early days of passenger travel via sailing schooner, steamship and rail ferries. New London's naturally sheltered, deep water harbor allowed it to develop into a major marine travel hub and established it as a major stopping point between the metropolitan areas of New York City and Boston. Confronted by an ever-growing population, an increase in highway congestion and related pollution from emissions, and continued reliance on automobile travel, New London, with its unique geographic location and accessibility to multiple modes of transport, finds itself in the transportation forefront once again.

New York Boat Owner Calls Haley for Quick Response

One of the most basic equations for the owner of workboat is the old adage, "time is money." In fact, when that same workboat is in drydock, the formula is even easier: no work, no money. The more time needed for repairs, the less money that workboat can make. Chris Roerig, president of CR Harbour Towing and Transportation in Glen Cove, N.Y., understands the equation. So when one of his company's towboats was pulled from service for repowering with CAT 3512B diesel engines he wanted to get the right propulsion gears and get them installed correctly without any waste of time. That's when he called Haley Marine Gears. An original equipment manufacturer…

Haley DRV 1711 Hydraulic Gear Unit

Haley Marine Gears realizes that quality of product must be complimented with equal service quality to survive in today's ultra-competitive market. The company was recently involved with a job which allowed it to exhibit its prowess on both ends, resulting in a highly satisfied workboat customer in New York. One of CR Harbour Towing & Transportation's (Glen Cove, N.Y.) towboats was recently pulled from service so that it could be re-powered with CAT 3512B marine diesel engines. Chris Roehrig, CR's president, wanted to get the right propulsion gears and have them installed correctly the first time, thus averting more time out of service and lost money.
