World’s First Full Scale Numerical Modelling Workshop

Lloyd’s Register (LR) hosted the world’s first workshop on full scale hydrodynamic computer simulations at their Global Technology Center in Southampton last month. Ship designers from around the world came together with the aim of building confidence in the accuracy of ship scale Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling within the marine sector. Brown Appointed COO at Lloyd’s Register

in Lloyd’s Register announced the appointment of Nick Brown, previously Director Business Development & Innovation, as the group’s new Marine Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to Marine Director Tom Boardley, Nick will be responsible for LR’s four global operating regions – Asia, Americas, Northern Europe and Southern Europe. David Barrow becomes Regional Marine Manager (RMM) for a new Northern Europe region while Apostolos Poulovassilis is RMM for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Iain Wilson and Tim Protheroe remain in their Asia and Americas roles.

Keppel and NUS Set Up Corporate Lab

Keppel Corporation (Keppel) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) announced the founding of the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory, in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF), Prime Minister's Office, Singapore. The laboratory, which will be based at the NUS Faculty of Engineering, will be established with an investment amount of S$75 million. The launch of the Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory was graced by Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Teo Chee Hean, who is also Chairman of NRF. The Keppel-NUS Corporate Laboratory is the second laboratory to be established under the NRF's Corp Lab at University scheme, which is established to support Singapore's autonomous universities in their conduct of industry-relevant research with companies as partners.

Lloyd’s Register Holds Offshore Technical Committee

Lloyd’s Register’s Global Technology Center in Singapore held its inaugural Offshore Technical Committee last week with representatives from national and international oil companies, EPC contractors, owners, operators, fabricators, shipbuilders, equipment vendors and representatives from a number of academic and research organizations. The members took part in a series of networking opportunities and technical workshops but also crucially approved two Lloyd’s Register Rule-sets: The Floating Offshore Installations at a Fixed Location 2013 Rules and the Mobile Offshore Unit 2013 Rules.
