Three ‘megamax’ quayside ship-to-shore (STS) cranes sailed up the River Mersey, destined for the Liverpool2 container terminal, UK, completing the final stage of their voyage from China.The cranes are part of work on the second phase of the Liverpool2 project to provide additional capacity for growing volumes of cargo.Their arrival follows Peel Ports announcing a record-breaking month for its container operations at the Port of Liverpool. Kalmar, the provider of cargo-handling solutions and services to ports, said that it has been awarded a contract to supply Asyaport Liman A.S. (Asyaport) with a total of six Kalmar Zero Emission rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes.According to the Cargotec group company, the order, which also includes Kalmar SmartPort solutions that are part of the recently launched Kalmar One automation system, was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q4 order intake, with delivery scheduled for Q4 of 2020.Asyaport is a joint venture between the Turkish Soyuer family and Global Terminal Limited, which secure berths and terminal capacity in the major ports used by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).Asyaport is Turkey’s first transshipment container terminal and has an annual capacity of up to 2.5 million TEU.

Kalmar, a provider of lifting solutions and part of Cargotec, has announced a further extension of its collaboration with world-leading global terminal operator DP World.A new fleet of Kalmar mobile equipment - 33 terminal tractors, three empty container handlers, three reachstackers and one forklift - will ensure safe and efficient operations at DP World's new deep-water port at Posorja in Ecuador. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 Q4 order intake, with delivery scheduled to begin during Q2 of 2019. Kalmar has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with DP World, a leading global operator of marine and inland terminals. The Posorja terminal is the first deep-water port in Ecuador and it is currently in its first phase of development.

Odfjell SE said it has been informed by Lindsay Goldberg that they are considering a sale of its 49% shareholding in Odfjell Terminals B.V.Lindsay Goldberg has been Odfjell's joint venture partner in Odfjell Terminals's U.S. and European terminals since 2011. In 2013, the partnership was expanded to include Odfjell Terminals's global terminal operations.Odfjell said it continues to consider Odfjell Terminals as core business and emphasized its long term commitment to owning, developing and operating tank terminals.

DP World, has formed a joint venture (JV) company with Egypt’s General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The new venture will see the global terminal operator assist in developing projects in the SCZone, the main trade route between Europe and Asia, serving more than 8% of annual global trade. The new venture will develop projects in the Suez Canal Zone, one of the most promising trade zones given the calibre of its logistics facilities and its strategic location. The announcement of the joint company came during Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's meeting today with DP World Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, and the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, Mohab Mamish.

French based CMA-CGM, a member of the Ocean Alliance, began the new INDIAMED service to Mumbai with the arrival of the 5,009 TEU capacity CMA CGM Virginia at APM Terminals Mumbai. The service, linking South Asia with ports in the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean, was officially introduced on July 2nd, operating with vessels provided by CMA-CGM, its APL subsidiary, and Chinese-based Alliance partner COSCO. The weekly INDIAMED service provides the fastest transit times between India and CMA CGM hub ports in the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf, and expands the transshipment network through the MEGEM (East Mediterranean to/from Middle East destinations) and MEDEX (West Mediterranean to/from Middle East and Indian Sub-Continent) services.

Container throughput at the Port of Salalah, part of the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network, reached 1.584 million TEU* in the first half of 2016, representing a 29% increase over volume handled during the same period the year prior. The completion of a new deep-water General Cargo and Liquid Bulk Terminal in December 2015 has enabled significant growth, with the facility handling approximately one million metric tons monthly. Some of the container volume growth is the result of Salalah’s proximity to the open sea, and its ability to accommodate the largest of the Ultra-Large Container Ships (ULCS) entering into the Asia/Europe trade lanes. Approximately 90% of Salalah’s container traffic is transshipment cargo movement.

APM Terminals Cotonou, operating as Coman SA at Benin’s primary port, adds two new cranes, the largest mobile cranes in the Benin port. Cotonou, Benin- Coman SA, operated by APM Terminals Cotonou in Benin’s primary port, has commissioned two new Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC) at a ceremony presided over by the Benin Minister of Transport, Hervé Hehomey. The new cranes will bring the terminal’s operating total to five, after the decommissioning of an older crane. The cranes have a lifting capacity of 144 tons, making them the largest in the port area. Coman SA Managing Director Koen De Backker said “These new cranes reflect our ongoing investment in improving Benin’s port infrastructure, productivity and competitiveness for our customers.

With three days of terminal operations completed under the new Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) Verified Gross Mass (VGM) Regulations, export cargo loading has proceeded without incident at the facilities within the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network. In 2014, the International Maritime organization (IMO), the agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating international seaborne trade, approved amendments to the SOLAS Convention which as of July 1st, 2016 requires verification and documentation of export containers before they can be loaded onto vessels. APM Terminals has graduated another 19 competitively selected managers from across the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network from the MAGNUM accelerated leadership training program at a formal ceremony in The Hague. Members of this year’s class represented 16 countries in Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. Divided into four modules, specific training segments took place in Switzerland, The Netherlands, Brazil, and a combined session split between Ghana and India. APM Terminals’ increased invested capital to USD $6.2 billion in 2015 as ongoing strategic plans to drive portfolio growth, improve productivity and safety performance, generated USD $4.2 billion in revenue, and a profit for the year of USD $654 million. Portfolio throughput weighted by equity share was 36 million TEUs for 2015, and when not including the divestment or exit of operations in Houston, Jacksonville, and Charleston, USA and a share in the Med-Center Terminal in Gioia Tauro, Italy, volume declined 1.1% from the year prior, while the overall global container market grew by 1.3%. Lower oil prices in 2015 affected APM Terminals bottom line, as reduced oil revenue resulted in declines in import cargo into oil producing countries in West Africa, Russia and Brazil.

APM Terminals Pipavav welcomed the IDM Symex, which arrived with a cargo of 800 Hyundai cars loaded at the Port of Chennai on February 5th, in a pioneering use of economical and environmentally-friendly coastal transportation of Indian-manufactured automobiles. APM Terminals Pipavav, part of the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network, commenced export Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro/Ro) services in August 2015, after NYK Auto Logistics India (NALI) invested in a state of the art stock yard and PDI [pre delivery inspection] facilities. The new cars destined for Western India dealerships originated at Hyundai Motor India Limited’s (HMIL) automotive manufacturing facility near Chennai, in Tamil Nadu State.

Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), began the New Year with the establishment of two new productivity records. On February 10th while working the 6328 TEU capacity MSC Geneva, 206 moves per hour (MPH) were achieved while handling 1,980 containers, representing 44 crane moves per hour (MPH), surpassing the previous record of 35 crane MPH set in January. A joint venture between APM Terminals and Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), BTP began operations in November 2013, and handled 1.14 million TEUs in 2015, growing its  volume by 35% over 2014 levels in its first full-year of operation, to become the largest container terminal at the Port of Santos. Santos is South America’s busiest container port, with over 3.7 million TEUs handled in 2015.

The Hague, Netherlands - With just 50 days until SOLAS Verified Gross Mass (VGM) comes into force APM Terminals is taking the lead to ensure a smooth transition into the new regulatory environment facing over 120 million containers entering the international supply chain. Under international law from 1st July, 2016 shippers are required to provide a VGM for every container before it can be loaded with the shipping line. This growth follows an 80% expansion in container traffic at CMIT in 2015 over the year prior, to 724,768 TEUs. CMIT, part of the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network, is a deep-water facility located in the Ba Ria‐Vung Tau Province, southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, and is capable of accommodating larger deep-draft vessels of up to 15,000 TEU capacity, now cascading into Vietnamese trade routes.
