Golar Taps Karl Fredrik Staubo as CEO

Golar LNG announced on Thursday it has appointed appointed Karl Fredrik Staubo as CEO, filling the void left by prior chief executive Iain Ross, who stepped down in April.Staubo has since May 2020 been the chief executive officer of Golar LNG Partners LP, recently sold to New Fortress Energy. Since September 2020 Staubo has also been acting as Golar's chief financial officer.Staubo's broad shipping/energy background includes time with Clarksons Platou Securities (2010-2018) and Magni Partners (2018-2020). He has a MA (Business Studies and Economics) from the University of Edinburgh.Golar has also appointed Eduardo Maranhao to take over Staubo's role as CFO.

Golar Spins Off TFDE LNG Biz

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipper Golar announced that it has decided to proceed with a spin-off of its Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric (TFDE) LNG carrier business as well as to focus its activities primarily on floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) and downstream assets.According to a stock exchange announcement, this will allow LNG shipping investors more direct exposure to the LNG shipping market and reposition Golar's core business toward LNG infrastructure on long-term contracts.Golar are in talks with other owners of similar tonnage to join the new shipping company and have discussed with Golar Power exchanging one of their LNG carriers for the FSRU Golar Tundra.Management of Golar's vessels will remain with Golar Management Norway AS…

Golar Bullish on LNG Market

Through the provision of cheaper and cleaner energy the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market will likely take market share from coal and oil and sustain industry growth levels of around 10% for the foreseeable future, said Golar LNG.The shipping company registered in Bermuda said that key markets continue to import record levels of LNG as they distance themselves from coal and nuclear, with Chinese and Korean 2018 demand up 41% and 18%, respectively.Lessons learned from gas shortages and last minute buying at the end of 2017 meant that China entered the winter buying market earlier in 2018. Following a comprehensive exercise to insource all ship management functions and to build a fully integrated shipping company, Golar LNG recently chose the BASSnet software as the core building block for the management of its fleet of 23 LNG carriers. Stolt-Nielsen, Golar LNG Form Joint Venture

Stolt-Nielsen Limited and Golar LNG Limited have formed a 50/50 joint venture to pursue opportunities in small-scale LNG production and distribution, the companies announced today. Stolt-Nielsen Limited has invested in Golar LNG through open-market purchases, representing an ownership stake of approximately 2.3 percent in the company. Commenting on the investment, Niels G. Stolt-Nielsen, CEO of Stolt-Nielsen Limited, said, "A key element of Stolt-Nielsen's long-term strategy is diversification that leverages our core skillsets, including shipping, storage and distribution.

Wärtsilä and Golar LNG Signs Major Contract

Wärtsilä has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with Golar Management Oslo for the delivery of services to Golar LNG, which is one of the world's largest independent owners and operators of LNG tankers. Service agreement includes remote monitoring of engines, maintenance planning, advisory services as well as guaranteed access to personnel and spare parts, Wärtsilä said in a statement. Golar's thirteen LNG carriers and Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU's are all equipped with Wärtsilä engines— 52 engines, in all. This prompted Golar LNG to turn to Wärtsilä for Asset Performance Optimization concepts and solutions. "One of Golar LNG's strategic assets is our operational excellence. Wärtsilä to Provide TMA for Golar Fleet

Wärtsilä signed a 5-year Technical Management Agreement with Golar Management Oslo for delivery of services to Golar LNG - one of the largest independent owners and operators of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers in the world. The service agreement includes remote monitoring of engines, maintenance planning, advisory services, and guaranteed availability of personnel as well as spare parts. Golar LNG operates a fleet of 13 vessels, dedicated to both LNG transportation and midstream floating solutions. The company developed the world's first Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRU's) based on the conversion of existing LNG carriers. Golar's LNG carriers and FSRU's are all equipped with Wärtsilä engines, the number of engines totalling at 52.

Golar LNG sells Golar Viking

Golar LNG Ltd has completed the sale and delivery of the LNG carrier Golar Viking to PT Perusahaan Pelayaran Equinox (Equinox) for US$135 million. The 140,205-cbm Golar Viking (built 2005) has been renamed Salju under Indonesian flag and registry. Under Indonesian Cabotage regulations, LNG cargoes produced and sold within Indonesia must be transported on an Indonesian flagged vessel. Equinox decided to acquire the Golar Viking and transfer the vessel to Indonesian flag due to an anticipated increase in domestic allocation for Indonesian produced LNG cargoes this year. The technical specification of Golar Viking, now renamed Salju, is well suited for the short haul nature of the domestic Indonesian trade.
