Port Everglades Appoints Charlton as Operations Director

Culina Group to Set Base at Peel Group's Port Salford

Food and drink logistics giant, Culina Group, has been announced as the first major tenant at the new National Import Centre being developed by the Peel Group, as part of its multi-million pound Port Salford development (located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) west of Manchester City Centre in the UK). Culina Group will take occupation of the first warehouse distribution unit to be built on the Port Salford site - the UK’s first tri-modal inland port facility and Distribution Park, accessible by rail, road and short sea-shipping. The property comprises 26,022 sq. m. (280,000 sq. ft.) of accommodation, including ancillary offices, service yard and parking.

New Quick Stowage Planning Software Showcased

IS Seacos Asia, a wholly owned subsidiary of INTERSCHALT maritime systems AG, Germany, welcomed 60 representatives of 30 companies from 5 different countries at their recent Singapore User Conference, where amongst others, StowMan[s] software was demonstrated. Of particular interest, say the organisers, was the official premiere of the new StowMan[s] software which the believe opens up a new dimension in stowage planning, by significantly speeding the process up and efficiently optimizing it at the same time.

Port of Hamburg Maintains 3Q Growth

Seaborne cargo throughput in Germany’s largest universal port in the first three quarters of 2013 totaled 103.9 million tons (+6%). The July-September trend, especially, ensured a brilliant throughput total: in the third quarter 35.8 million tons crossed Hamburg’s quay walls, giving the Port of Hamburg a throughput gain of 11.1%. After advances in the first quarter of 0.6% and of 6.3% in the second, the continuous upward trend in its cargo throughput was therefore more than maintained.

StowMan Targets Efficiency, Safety

Efficiency and safety were the key topics at the third MACS3 User Conference. Taking part were 35 representatives of 25 companies, from nine different countries. Of particular interest to them was a highlight: the official premiere of the new StowMan software. StowMan opens up a new dimension in stowage planning, by significantly speeding it up and efficiently optimizing it at the same time. It was developed in cooperation with Professor Rune Møller Jensen of the IT University of Copenhagen. The second highlight was the opening of the Fleet Operation Center (FOC), which serves to increase efficiency and prevent accidents. Furthermore, INTERSCHALT offered participants a look at brand-new features of the MACS3 loading computer, such as the improved TROP software module for trim optimization.

KBN’s container lift trucks demonstrate outstanding reliability, safety and ease of control in Jakarta facility. The busy operations of Indonesian export processing and logistics company Pt Kawasan Berikat Nusantara demand exceptional levels of efficiency and reliability from its container lift trucks. For its latest acquisitions at the company’s Jakarta facility, KBN required machinery that would handle more than 200 40 and 20 foot containers a day while being backed with a rapid response service backup if ever required to maintain throughput.
