ONE to Trial Wind-Assist Propulsion

Ocean Network Express (ONE) has launched a wind-assist propulsion trial in partnership with Dutch maritime wind-powered technology company Econowind.The companies are set to install two containerized wind-assist devices, known as VentoFoil containers, on the MV Kalamazoo. The 1,036 TEU feeder vessel operates between Pusan, Yokohama, and Honolulu, and is owned by NORSE UK and operated by Goodwood Ship Management, Singapore.The VentoFoils, which resemble airplane wings, are designed to harness wind energy, resulting in a significant reduction in fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

Cargo Removed from Stricken Tanker off China, Preparing for Voyage to Repair Yard

Cargo onboard a tanker that leaked oil off China has been removed and preparations are underway so the vessel can sail to a Chinese repair yard, the ship's manager said on Wednesday.The A Symphony was anchored roughly 40 nautical miles (74 km) off the coast of Qingdao when it was struck by the bulk carrier Sea Justice in dense fog on April 27. Ships, Equipment in Place to Remove Oil from Stricken Tanker in China

Clean-up off Qingdao Continues After Oil Spill from Ship Collision

IRClass Sets up Advisory Committee in Singapore

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) held the first meeting of its Advisory Committee in Singapore. The purpose of the committee, which draws members from Singapore’s leading maritime and offshore companies, is to give expert guidance to IRClass in strengthening its relationship with the Lion Republic’s maritime cluster and across South East Asia. “In our relatively short existence to date, we have gone some way beyond the simple provision of classification services,” he said. “Life begins at 40, they say,” he added. The committee discussed the aims and objectives of IRClass in Singapore and South East Asia, and advised IRClass to focus on educating the markets not only on its classification capability but the range of its portfolio of services.

DHT Tops 1Q Forecasts

DHT Holdings declares $0.15/share quarterly dividend, 200% increase from prior dividend of $0.05. The Hamilton, Bermuda-based Company said it had profit of 25 cents per share. The company has reported first-quarter net income of $23.2 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier. According to a report in AP, the results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 22 cents per share. The independent oil tanker company posted revenue of $73.5 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $67.9 million.

Goodwood Ship Management Set For Growth

Goodwood Ship Management, the Singapore based management company, is set to increase its fleet under management to more than 10 million deadweight tonnes, the company’s annual officers’ conference heard this week. Capt Ashok Sabnis, Goodwood Managing Director, told more than 150 senior officers at the Mumbai event that the management company was gearing up to take on technical management of more tankers. “By the middle of 2016 our managed fleet will rise to around 50 vessels with many of these being larger tankers in the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) category.

DHT Holdings to Acquire Samco Shipholding

DHT Holdings, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire all the outstanding shares of Samco Shipholding Pte. Ltd., a private company incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Singapore. Samco owns and operates a fleet of seven very large crude oil tankers (VLCCs) with an average age of approximately 4.5 years. Five of the vessels are currently on time charters to oil majors. Included in the transaction is Samco's 50% ownership in Goodwood Ship Management Pte. Ltd., a private ship management company incorporated under the laws of the Republic of Singapore.
