Australia Strengthens Naval Ties with Mynamar (Burma)
The Australian Government informs it has re-established a resident Defence Attaché office in Burma with the arrival in Rangoon of Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Captain Jon Dudley who will fill the post left vacant since 1979. The appointment coincides with the arrival at the Port of Rangoon of a RAN Armidale-Class patrol boat, 'HMAS Childers', the first such visit by an Australian warship to Burma for about 50 years. Acting Minister for Defence, Senator George Brandis welcomed the visit by HMAS Childers and her 21 crew, who will stay for four days as part of a good will visit.
ClassNK Signs Agreement with Myanmar Govt.
ClassNK announced that it has signed an agreement with the Government of Myanmar granting ClassNK authorization to carry out statutory surveys on its behalf. The signing ceremony took place in the Park Royal Hotel in Yangon on April 26, 2013, with Director General of the Department of Marine Administration Mr. Maung Maung Oo signing on behalf of the Government of Myanmar. ClassNK has been carrying out surveys for Myanmar-flagged vessels for various international conventions since receiving Recognized Organization status from the Government of Myanmar in 1986.
ONGC Videsh Wins 3 Exploratiom Blocks in Myanmar
ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) has won three offshore exploration blocks in Myanmar. The contracts will be signed between OVL and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, a Government of Myanmar enterprise. The company succeeded in acquiring 100 per cent participating interests in these three deepwater blocks AD-2, AD-3 and AD-9 in Myanmar offshore. Currently, the total oil and gas production of Myanmar is about 10,000 barrel oil per day (bpd) and 820 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), respectively. The total oil and gas reserves are estimated at 50 million barrel and 10 trillion cubic feet respectively. Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise produces about 10,000 bpd and 120 MMSCFD gas from onshore oil and gas fields. [Source: The Hindu Businessline]
