Libyan forces loyal to eastern commander Khalifa Haftar said on Monday they had tightened their control over four major oil ports, casting a Western-backed project to unite Libya and revive oil exports into deep uncertainty. Haftar's forces met little resistance as they seized the terminals at Ras Lanuf, Es Sider, Zueitina and Brega in an operation launched on Sunday, displacing a rival armed faction aligned with the U.N.-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli. The advance is the latest power struggle over the OPEC nation's energy assets, after the 2011 fall of Muammar Gaddafi and the chaos that followed left the North African country splintered into competing rival armed factions.

Flir Systems say that William A. Sundermeier, President of the Company's Government Systems Division, has resigned to pursue other personal and business opportunities. Thomas A. Surran, most recently President of the Company's Commercial Systems Division, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, and will assume responsibility for FLIR's global commercial and government operations. Mr. Sundermeier has agreed to assist the Company with the transition of his responsibilities through the end of February 2014.

The Philippines' Ports Authority has resumed full commercial operations at the port of Tacloban which was closed for about 12 days after Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) struck. The Ports Authority and International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) worked round-the-clock to restart operations at the port, which is expected to become the relief hub. Cargo handling equipment from ICTSI to help temporarily run the port of Tacloban until it recovers from damage caused by the storm is due to arrive today.

On December 10, 1905, while riding out a severe gale, Lightship No. 58 on the Nantucket Shoals Station sprang a serious leak. There being no recognized radio distress signal at that time, the operator could only repeatedly spell out the word "help". Although no reply was received Newport Navy station (radio) intercepted the call and passed it on to the proper authorities. The lightship tender Azalea was dispatched to the assistance of Lightship No. 58, and upon arrival at the scene passed a towline. The long tow to a safe harbor began, but after a few hours it was quite evident that Lightship No. 58 was sinking.

Growing work in the government sector, particularly with the US Navy and the US Coast Guard has ABS responding with changes to its Government Operations office located in Washington, DC. Key staff appointments and additional project management resources have been dedicated to best manage the important and growing government work that comes not only from within the US but also from various navies and military organizations throughout the world. President Bush’s fiscal year 2009 budget request for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) represents $50.5 billion in funding, which is an increase of 6.8 percent over the 2008 fiscal year level – excluding funds provided in emergency supplemental funding. The request targets five areas, detailed in the following release of information from the DHS. The Department of Homeland Security’s main priority is to prevent terrorist attacks against the nation and to protect our nation from dangerous people. DHS will continue to prevent the entry of terrorists while facilitating the legitimate flow of people by strengthening border security efforts and continuing to gain effective control of America’s borders.

McDermott International, Inc. (NYSE:MDR) reported net income of $140.4m, or $0.61 per diluted share, for the 2007 third quarter, compared to net income of $102.7m, or $0.45 per diluted share, for the corresponding period in 2006. Weighted average common shares outstanding on a fully diluted basis were approximately 228.9 million and 228.3 million in the quarters ended September 30, 2007 and September 30, 2006, respectively. For 2006, the Company's common shares outstanding and earnings per share are adjusted to reflect the 2-for-1 stock split effected in September 2007. McDermott's revenues in the third quarter of 2007 were $1,324.0m, compared to $1,118.3m in the corresponding period in 2006.
