USS Ronald Reagan Departs for Sea Trials
The U.S. Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), departed Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) May 7. Ronald Reagan's crew shifted colors at 11:54 a.m. and made way to conduct sea trials in the final phase of the ship's selective restricted availability (SRA) maintenance period, which began January 10. "I am extremely proud of the Reagan crew's accomplishments up to this point of our SRA period," said Capt. Buzz Donnelly, commanding officer.
Container-on-barge Returns to Baton Rouge
Container-on-barge services have returned to the Port of Greater Baton Rouge to provide the petrochemical industry with another option to move its products. Operated by SEACOR AMH, the service transports empty containers by barge into the Port of Greater Baton Rouge and loads them at the Inland Rivers Marine Terminal with products from nearby industries. The IRMT is located on a slack water canal off the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway in Port Allen. The second leg of the service delivers and returns containers to and from the Port of New Orleans, via the Mississippi River.

Miller Boat Line Recognized for Plane Rescue on Lake Erie
A Captain and three crewmen from the passenger/vehicle ferry service, Miller Boat Line, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, will be honored with a Certificate of Appreciation given by the ODNR Division of Watercraft, at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 15, 2010, at the Miller Ferry Dock, Catawba Island, Ohio. The award will be given by Chief Pamela Dillon, head of the ODNR Division of Watercraft, Columbus, Ohio. The honor of "lifesaving efforts" will be given to Captain Steve Rose and crew members Jacob Market, Bernie Wise, and Greg Johnson. The four men were working aboard a Lake Erie Islands ferry, the William Market, on the morning of Friday, August 13, 2010, when a single engine privately owned plane crashed into the lake near the Miller Ferry Lime Kiln Dock, Put-in-Bay, Ohio.
Container on Barge Service Launched
The Port of Greater Baton Rouge announced a new weekly short-sea shipping service for containers via barge to the Port of New Orleans. This regular service is scheduled weekly to facilitate demand from local industry. Osprey Line operates the container terminal at the Baton Rouge port’s Inland Rivers Marine Terminal and launched the first weekly shipment Friday, January 9, 2004 to the Napoleon Street Wharf Container Terminal in New Orleans. Osprey Line President Rick Couch said, “With this weekly container-on-barge shipping schedule, local companies who import and export products to and from the Port of New Orleans can take advantage of lower transportation costs.
