Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and FueLNG, a joint venture between Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd and Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd, have completed the first bunkering to an LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessel in Singapore.NYK’s Jasmine Leader, one of the largest PCTC vessels in the world, successfully completed her LNG bunkering with FueLNG Bellina on March 8, 2023.“We are delighted to have achieved the first PCTC LNG bunkering through Jasmine Leader in Singapore,” said Yuji Nishijima, Executive Officer in charge for fuel procurement of NYK.

According to a press release from the tanker firm, the first one was delivered to NAT July 10, 2018. The second ship was delivered August 31, 2018.This third vessel has the name of Nordic Tellus, which means the planet Earth in Latin. The sponsor of the vessel is Mrs. Hyun Hee Chung, the wife of Dr.Whan Chang, owner and Chairman of the the media group Maekyung, the largest publishing house in Korea.Over the years, NAT has received several newbuildings from Korea. A suezmax is able to load one million barrels of crude oil. At this time NAT has 25 suezmaxes.

Dutch based Damen Shipyards Group said it has signed a contract with Canada’s Group Ocean for the delivery of two new workboats that will provide dredging support services at an oil sands project in northern Canada. The new vessels, both Modular Multi Cats 1205, are made of standard, container-sized units that enable easy transport. The versatile Multi Cat workboat used in many sectors for operations such as towing and anchor-handling, dive support, marine engineering, offshore energy operations and for dredging and dredging support.

When markets expand niches are created, goes the logic. For builders of tugs, that market is “floating gas” and the expanding use of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, as a fuel. As a 100 metric-ton bollard pull ice class tug, the OCEAN Tundra is reportedly the most powerful harbor tugboat to ever be built in Canada. SSI's ShipConstructor CAD/CAM application was used to construct this vessel. SSI client Robert Allan Ltd. produced the design and SSI's dealer, Navware, and the associated marine engineering firm, Navtech, worked with OCEAN Industries during the production design and engineering of the tugboat. The project was so successful that OCEAN Industries decided to standardize on using ShipConstructor for future projects.

Ocean Dredging DSM Ocean inc., an Ocean sister company, will carry out a harbor dredging contract with its Mexican partner Dragados del Golfo, in Paraiso, a town located in the state of Tabasco in Mexico. The dredging of the port of Dos Bocas is a unique opportunity for Ocean and a first in Mexico. The dredging of the port of Dos Bocas will extend over a period of more than 60 days and a dozen Ocean employees will be required to carry out the work. The trailing suction hopper dredge Océan Traverse Nord will take 16-21 days to reach Mexico.

Lockheed Martin Canada, a major supplier of systems, software and professional services to the Royal Canadian Navy, will be in Saint John, Halifax and St. John’s this week to meet with companies that could become partners and suppliers on shipbuilding projects, including the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships and other future programs. Phillips will also become a member of the Petromedia Group Board and will be based in Singapore. John Phillips comes to Ocean Intelligence from his own consulting company, Awyr Las Pte Ltd, which will continue to be run autonomously. Phillips was Global Credit Manager for leading marine fuels supplier Chemoil, before he left to set up Awyr Las Pte Ltd, and before that Phillips was Operations Manager for Lloyds MIU.
