Hapag-Lloyd Wins 2016 Ocean Performance Award

The GT Nexus Shipper Council, a community group of supply chain executives representing large global enterprises, has recognized Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world's leading container liner shipping companies, as the winner of the 2016 Ocean Performance Award. The award was granted at Bridges 2016, the leading cloud supply chain industry event held July 10-13 in New York as part of Inforum. Hapag-Lloyd operates a fleet of 175 modern container ships and a total capacity of 955,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU). The company has approximately 9,400 employees at 361 sites in 118 countries. Hapag-Lloyd has a container fleet of 1.6 million TEU including one of the world's largest and most state-of-the-art reefer fleets.

MSC Launches 'myMSC'

MSC has recently launched a new customer portal called ‘myMSC’ which allows you to submit your VGM instructions online and much more. The launch of this portal has been advanced in anticipation of the new SOLAS regulation which comes into effect on the 1st July 2016. MSC will roll out additional functionality over the course of 2016. The portal will offer complete online management of your cargo including; rate requests, bookings, shipping instructions, manifest correctors, notice of arrivals, financial records, schedules, cut-off information, rates of exchange and VGM submission. Customers can submit and amend documents such as shipping instructions and bookings. myMSC complements MSC’s other eCommerce channels such as EDI connections via INTTRA, GT NEXUS and Cargo Smart.

UASC Readies with VGM Processing

CMA CGM Rolls Out SOLAS Electronic Submission Platform

"In order to ensure complete visibility and a seamless transition when adapting to the new SOLAS regulation, we have created a dedicated page on our website to guide you through the new Verified Gross Mass (VGM) regulation," says a statement from CMA CGM. From July 1st 2016, the Verified Gross Mass will be applied for better container stowage onboard vessels to avoid incident. CMA CGM Group expect to receive the weight prior to planning. A specific SOLAS cut-off will be provided to our customers within booking confirmation. CMA CGM eBusiness platform is fully compliant to handle your VGM submission requirements. VGM information is gathered, compiled and shared with terminals. VGM information can be submitted along with Shipping Instructions (SI) or through a separate submission.

Containers' VGM Mandatory on Hapag-Lloyd

Hapag-Lloyd has informed as from July 1, 2016, the new SOLAS regulation will become effective; therefore the packed containers’ VGM will be mandatory for all the units to be loaded onboard their vessels. The new regulation entails a change in existing procedures for all stakeholders involved across the shipping industry. Safety concerns have always taken a high priority at Hapag-Lloyd – accordingly it is our responsibility to reduce risks to human life and damages to the cargo and environment due to inaccurately declared weights. Therefore, a packed container for which a verified weight has not been obtained in time, will not be loaded on board our vessels.

NYK Line to Join GT Nexus

NYK Line announced that it has signed an agreement to join the GT Nexus Network. GT Nexus provides the Internet-based technology behind the GT Nexus Network, an industry web portal that allows global businesses to perform freight shipping transactions with multiple ocean carriers on a single platform. The GT Nexus Network now includes three Japanese maritime shipping companies. NYK Line joins MOL (Mitsui-OSK Lines) and "K" Line as network participants. The three carriers provide the majority of containerized ocean shipping capacity serving Japan and are among the largest Asian-Pacific carriers. GT Nexus and NYK Line have been working for the past several months on integration and connectivity activities in support of common customers.

MOL Promotes Two to Director Level Positions

MOL (America) Inc. has promoted Diana Jackson and JoAnn Yourcheck to Director level positions. Jackson has been promoted to the position of Director, Equipment Control for North America, Caribbean, and Central America. Jackson, who is currently based in Seattle, Wash., will soon relocate to the company’s office located in the Chicago suburb of Elmhurst, Ill., where she will be responsible for managing equipment control functions. Jackson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new position, having worked in various capacities for MOL since 1977. Prior to her recent promotion, Jackson served as MOL’s Manager of Operations for the Pacific Northwest region. Additionally, she has worked extensively in the areas of operations, traffic, sales, customer service and documentation.
