BP Welcomes FLNG Gimi in West Africa

FLNG Gimi Delivered and Sailing to Africa

Golar LNG has announced that the FLNG Gimi has departed Singapore’s Seatrium Shipyard and is now sailing under its own propulsion, supported by an escort tug, toward BP’s purpose-built Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) hub offshore Mauritania and Senegal.The voyage is expected to take around 60 days, including refuelling stops in Mauritius prior to rounding the Cape of Good Hope and in Namibia prior to its arrival. After a slowdown in activity during 2020/2021 due to soft commodity prices, demand for FPSOs is picking up.With exploration hotspots like Namibia’s Orange Basin and the East Mediterranean delivering new finds, the FPSO market outlook is healthy. But shipyard capacity constraints are beginning to weigh on delivery, leading to cost concerns. Furthermore, FPSO demand is competing for yard space with other construction projects.To mitigate delay risk and cost overruns, some E&Ps have reviewed their FPSO procurement strategies.

Greater Tortue Ahmeyim FPSO Returned to Quayside after Drifting Off Due to Typhoon

Oil and gas company Kosmos Energy said Tuesday that the FPSO for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project had been returned to the quayside  of the COSCO shipyard in China, following the recent incident in which the vessel drifted away due to the impact of Typhoon Muifa.The floating production, storage and offloading vessel (“FPSO”) for the GTA development in Mauritania/Senegal is being constructed at the COSCO yard. During the typhoon on September 15, the mooring lines of the FPSO became compromised, resulting in the vessel drifting approximately 200 meters off the quayside.

Bourbon Extends Support for Construction at BP's GTA Hub

Bourbon Mobility said it has been tapped to provide additional support Saipem for the construction of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim field off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal, with the chartering of two vessels, the Sirocco FSIV (Fast Support Intervention Vessel) and the Surfer 2609.The multipurpose vessel Bourbon Sirocco allows for both the management of crew changes and the routing of regular supplies. Technip Energies Hires Havfram for Tortue Ahmeyim FPSO Work

GTA Names Sixth LNG-Fueled Tanker

Marine engineering company FKAB said that the sixth vessel ordered by the Gothia Tanker Alliance (GTA), a network of established tanker operators,  has been named at the Avic Dingheng shipyard.The 'Ramelia' is the sixth in a series of vessels ordered for the Gothia Tanker Alliance series.The Ramelia, which is owned by Rederi AB Älvtank, is an ice class 1A environmental friendly tanker, equipped with batteries and dual-fuel engines for LNG operation.It is of 16,300 DWT on design draught & 18,000 DWT on scantling draught, said a press release.This vessel concept is named FKAB T24C1 and was developed by FKAB together with the owner Furetank.Through our FKAB offices in Sweden & China…

Vigor Delivers Two Pilot boats to M.E.

Vigor expanded its growing portfolio of international sales with the delivery of two, 19m all-weather pilot boats to The Port of Duqm Company (PDC), SAOC, Sultanate of Oman. HMS Prince of Wales Powers Ahead

The second MT30 Gas Turbine Alternator (GTA) has been installed into the U.K. Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, at Rosyth, the Aircraft Carrier Alliance reported. ‪Generating 36 megawatts (around 50,000 horsepower), the power-dense Rolls-Royce MT30 marine gas turbine is key for naval ships where high power occupying minimum space is essential.‬ Each 120-metric-ton GTA package consists of a GE supplied alternator coupled to a Rolls-Royce supplied MT30 Gas Turbine contained within an enclosure.

MECNW Appoints New CEO

Terry Weston has been confirmed as Chief Executive of Maritime and Engineering College North West (MECNW) following the retirement of his predecessor, Jim Teasdale, at the end of September. Jim Teasdale was a founder director and chief executive of Birkenhead-based Maritime and Engineering College North West (MECNW), a charitable foundation set up under his leadership in 1998 to provide apprenticeship training in vocational skills with a particular focus on engineering and marine engineering. Under his direction, the college merged with industry representative body Mersey Maritime - also led by Mr Teasdale – in 2007, bringing together the complementary strengths of each organisation under the newly-formed Mersey Maritime Group umbrella.

Rolls-Royce installed the first MT30 gas turbine into the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, at Babcock’s Rosyth shipyard in Scotland. The MT30, at 36 MW (around 50,000 hp), is reported by the company to be the world’s most powerful marine gas turbine. Two MT30s will be installed in each ship and will provide two thirds of the 109 MW needed to power the 65,000 ton ships. The MT30s are installed as part of a Gas Turbine Alternator (GTA) which also includes an alternator and gas turbine enclosure, weighing a total of 120 tonnes.

Lake Ontario Tests New Spyder Patrol Boat

The tri-hulled ReflexTM 850 Spyder underwent assessment and evaluation trials on Lake Ontario off Port Credit and Burlington’s LaSalle Park by with federal provincial and municipal police marine units from July 20 to 23. Completely designed locally and manufactured in Maine, U.S., the 28-ft craft comes to Canadian waters after considerable testing in the United States by various police agencies.
