Bahri Charters Methanol-fueled Tanker Pair

Bahri business unit Bahri Chemicals will charter two newbuild methanol-powered tankers under a five-year agreement with methanol producer Proman. The vessels, which were officially named during a ceremony hosted at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China in November 2023 where both ships were built, will be deployed to transport various products globally.The vessels are the final two of an initial six-strong methanol-fueled tanker fleet commissioned through the partnership between Proman and Stena Bulk.

Proman Stena Bulk, the joint venture between tanker company Stena Bulk and methanol producer Proman, formally christened its methanol-fueled tanker Stena Pro Marine during a ceremony at the Port of New Orleans.Delivered in mid-2022, the newbuild is a 49,990 DWT dual-fuel mid-range (MR) tanker constructed at Guangzhou Shipyard International Co Ltd (GSI) in China. ABB to Supply Ice-Classed Azipod Propulsion for Research Vessel

ABB has received an order from the Guangzhou Shipyard International to supply an Azipod® DI propulsion system for the new compact icebreaker of China’s Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering. The ship is expected to be delivered in 2025, after which it will begin to carry out operations in the Arctic and Antarctic Ocean.A complete electric propulsion system including two 4.5MW Azipod® units will drive the vessel through harsh weather and thick first-year ice to enable research on behalf of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Ocean Yield Orders Four Methanol-ready Tankers from China's GSI

Ocean Yield Enters Sustainability-Linked Transaction for Four Product Tankers

Ocean Yield has agreed to purchase four LR1 product tankers, to be constructed at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China.The vessels will be built with a design enabling them to be converted to dual-fuel operation with methanol as fuel. China’s Shipyards Operating at Full Capacity

The major shipyards in China are operating at full capacity, resulting in potential order backlogs, reports China Daily.The value of China's ship exports rose by over 21% year-on-year to $8.86 billion in the January-May period, according to China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry data. Orders rose by 50% over that time, giving China a 67% world share.Orders have included container ships, bulk carriers, LNG carriers, vehicle carriers and offshore vessels. GSI Claims Lead in Orders for LNG Dual-Fuel PCTCs

Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), part of China State Shipbuilding Corp, has recently taken the lead in orders LNG dual-fuel pure car truck carriers (PCTCs), reports China Daily.The company now has contracts to build 25 PCTCs after a recent contract signing for three 8,600 ceu dual-fuel PCTCs for an unnamed Asian company. Other orders include three 7,000 ceu dual-fuel PCTCs with Guangzhou Yuanhai Automobile Shipping and three LNG dual-fuel 7,000 ceu newbuilds from COSCO.Of the yards 25 PCTC orders, 11 are being built for overseas companies, including South Korea's H-Line Shipping.

Hafnia to Add Four Dual-fuel LR2 Newbuilds

MacGregor to Supply All-electric RoRo Equipment to Four PCTC Vessels

MacGregor reports it has been selected to supply equipment for four new roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) vessels to be built by the Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd for H-Line Shipping, Korea.The vessels are scheduled to be delivered to the owner starting in the second quarter of 2024 and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.MacGregor, part of Cargotec, said it will supply all-electrically operated RoRo equipment, including quarter ramps, side ramps, internal movable ramps and rampway doors to each of the four vessels.

Proman Stena Bulk, a joint venture (JV) between methanol producer Proman and Stena Bulk, confirmed that the first methanol-powered newbuild vessel under its partnership has been delivered and is preparing for commercial operation.Stena Pro Patria is named in honor of Dennis Patrick, an integral member of the Proman family and the former CEO of Proman’s subsidiary Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL), who passed away in 2019.The 49,990 DWT Stena Pro Patria is the first of six state-of-the-art, IMOIIMeMAX dual-fuel mid-range (MR) tankers being built at Guangzhou Shipyard International Co.

Wärtsilä won a new agreement for its exhaust gas cleaning systems to be installed on two newbuild 218m RoRo passenger vessels (RoPax) at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China.Signed in February 2022, the contract calls for Wärtsilä to fit and commission two 25-MWV-SOx hybrid scrubber systems, which can run in both open and closed loop configurations, on each vessel. MOL Nets Charter in Russia for New Ice-breaking Condensate Carrier

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a charter contract for a newbuilding ice-breaking tanker that will transport condensate from the Arctic LNG 2 Project on Russia’s Gydan Peninsula.The contract was signed by a MOL subsidiary with the project company, whose largest shareholder is Russia-based PAO NOVATEK. The vessel,  slated for delivery in 2024, will be constructed in China by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC).

DFDS' Newbuild Aura Seaways Arrives in Europe

Danish shipping company DFDS said it has taken delivery of Aura Seaway, the first in a series of two new roll-on, roll-off passenger ferries from Chinese shipbuilder Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI).The 230-meter-long newbuild, now on its way to Europe, is the first newbuild passenger vessel contracted by DFDS since Scandinavia was delivered in 1982.With 4,500 lane meters and capacity for 600 passengers, the new vessel is by far DFDS' largest RoPax ferry in terms of cargo capacity.

Proman Stena Bulk Ltd confirmed that steel cutting has commenced for its state-of-the-art IMOIIMeMAX methanol-fuelled 49,900 DWT vessel Stena Pro Patria, which is due for delivery in early 2022. Stena Pro Patria will be the first of the three methanol vessels to be built by the joint venture between Swedish Stena Bulk and the Swiss-based Proman Shipping.The steel cutting for Stena Pro Patria, which started on January 7, 2021, is taking place at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China and marks the operational beginning of Stena Bulk and Proman’s journey together as a joint venture.

Proman Stena Bulk Orders Another Methanol-powered Vessel

Proman Stena Bulk, a joint venture between Proman Shipping and Stena Bulk, has agreed to build an additional vessel, the methanol-powered Stena Prosperous.The joint venture in November 2019 signed a deal with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China to build two IMOIIMeMAX methanol-ready 49,900 DWT vessels, with the first vessel due for delivery at the beginning of 2022. Now, the company will add another vessel, the Stena Prosperous. which will join the Stena ProPatria and the Stena ProMare in the Proman Stena fleet in the second half of 2022.
