Finland's Icebreaking Season is Underway

Icebreaking operations have commenced in Finland, with two icebreakers presently deployed in the Bay of Bothnia, where ice has begun to form at the head end and along shipping lanes.On December 25, by decision of the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the icebreaker Kontio was deployed, followed by icebreaker Otso on January 8. Estonia Mulls OWF in Gulf of Riga

The Estonian government's decision to initiate the construction permit procedure for the Gulf of Riga offshore wind farm allows Eesti Energia to continue its research and search for partners for the construction of an offshore wind farm in the Gulf of Riga.Eesti Energia, the state-owned international energy company that operates in Baltic countries, said that the Gulf of Riga offshore wind farm has the potential to become the first joint Estonian-Latvian renewable energy production project, as the Latvian-developed wind farm development area is only 10 km away from the Gulf of Riga."There is no experience of building an offshore wind farm in Estonia, so it is logical that an offshore wind farm of this size will be made in cooperation with several companies.

Incat Crowther Launches 24m Catamaran RO-PAX Ferry

Incat Crowther announced the launch of the 24m Catamaran Ro-Pax Ferry, Runö. The vessel was recently launched by Baltic Workboats in Estonia and successfully completed sea trials. Runö is the second Incat Crowther-designed vessel to be built by Baltic Workboats, after VÄ—jĹ«nas, a 24m Catamaran Scientific Research Vessel. Runö will be operated in the Gulf of Riga, Estonia, between the mainland port of Parnu and the islands of Runhu and Saaremaa.
