Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), a company that designs, builds and maintains nuclear and non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard and provides after-market services for military ships around the globe, reported third quarter 2013 revenues of $1.64 billion, up 2.6% from the same period last year. Third quarter diluted earnings per share was $1.36, compared to $0.26 in the same period of 2012. Segment operating income in the third quarter was $142 million, compared to $89 million in the same period last year.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced today the closure of its Gulfport Composite Center of Excellence in Gulfport, Miss. "This is a difficult but necessary decision," said HII President and CEO Mike Petters. "Due to the reduction in the Zumwalt-class (DDG 1000) ship construction and the recent U.S. Navy decision to use steel products on Lyndon B. Current work being performed at Gulfport is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2014, with closure expected by May 2014.

Huntington Ingalls Industries announced  its Ingalls Shipbuilding division achieved a milestone in the construction process of the composite hangar that will be used on the U.S. Navy's second Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyer, Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001). Recently, the shipbuilders at the company's Gulfport, Miss., facility turned the inverted hangar to an upright position, or ship-shape, which is an important and necessary feat in the construction schedule of this component.

After huge oil finds in recent years, Brazil's need for offshore vessels continues to expand and could double between now and the end of the decade. Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE:HII) announced that the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division has been awarded an advance procurement contract for work on the U.S. Navy's third Zumwalt-class destroyer, DDG 1002. The contract is valued at $46 million, with the majority of the work taking place at the company's Composite Center of Excellence in Gulfport. "Strategically, this is a very important contract to our company and specifically to the composite shipbuilders working in Gulfport," said Karrie Trauth, Ingalls Shipbuilding's DDG 1000 program manager.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) Shipbuilding's facility in Gulfport, Miss. has been recognized for exemplary shipyard safety and received "star" status in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-sponsored Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). OSHA representatives presented the official VPP star status certification and flags to management and shipbuilders working at the Gulfport facility on July 29.

The U.S. Navy awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation a $1.4b cost plus incentive fee contract for the construction of a Zumwalt-class destroyer, DDG 1001, as well as major components for the DDG 1000. The contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, a newly-formed company sector comprising the former Ship Systems and Newport News shipbuilding sectors. Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding's Gulfport facility will build the composite deckhouse for all DDG 1000 class destroyers; this award includes the construction of the deckhouse for DDG 1000.

Senesco Marine hired Norman Hodge as Vice President of new construction. Most recently Hodge was General Manager of Conrad's in Orange, Texas. Prior to working for Conrad's he was the Plant Manager at Halter Marine's Gulfport facility in Mississippi. During that time he was in charge of operations at three shipyards with a total of 500 employees. Hodge has been directly involved in the construction of over two thousand barges of various types and design over the years. At Senesco Marine, Hodge will oversee the construction of all new barges. Last year Senesco Marine launched two 80,000-barrel double-hulled liquid fuel barges. This year the shipyard plans to launch two more 80,000-barrel double-hulled barges along with a 100,000-barrel double-hulled barge.

Friede Goldman Halter, Inc. announced that it has recently finalized six new contracts with a total value of approximately $40 million. -The Venezuelan government for the construction of two 153-foot LCU-type logistics support vessels. Financing for the project has been secured through the Export-Import Bank and all guarantees have been obtained. Construction for the vessels is anticipated to begin during the second quarter at the company's Moss Point Marine shipyard in Escatawpa, MS and delivery is slated for the fourth quarter of 2001. -Atwood Oceanics for the design and construction of a deepwater mooring system. According to the AP, with the next hurricane season two weeks away, Northrop Grumman Ship Systems has made changes in its plans to protect its coastal shipbuilding facilities and recover from a storm as powerful as Hurricane Katrina, a company official said Tuesday. Northrop Grumman, which bills itself as the world's largest military shipbuilder, will evacuate workers and start securing its facilities in Pascagoula, Gulfport and New Orleans at least 24 to 36 hours earlier than it typically did for past hurricanes, officials said. Vehicles and equipment will be moved to higher ground. Water, food, generators and gasoline will be stockpiled in greater quantities. Fewer workers will stay behind to ride out the storm.

Trinity Yachts, LLC has moved one ) nearly completed yacht and four of their partially built yachts over to their new production facility in Gulfport, Miss. These yachts were towed through the Intracoastal waterways that are strewn with sunken or damaged fishing and pleasure boats left over from Hurricane Katrina. According to John Dane III, President of Trinity Yachts, “The last eight weeks have been very hectic since hurricane Katrina stuck, and with the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show quickly approaching, we really haven’t had a chance to pause and reflect on how far we have come. Northrop Grumman Corporation's Ship Systems sector announced today that retired Rear Adm. John B. "Jay" Foley III, USN, one of the U.S. Navy's outstanding leaders during a 33-year career, has been named vice president of the company's shipbuilding operations in Gulfport, Miss. The company said that Foley, who recently retired from the Navy as commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, will bring his leadership and naval expertise to the Gulfport facility beginning Sept. 16, 2002. "We are delighted to have Jay Foley joining our team," said Dr. Philip A. Dur, Northrop Grumman corporate vice president and president of the company's Ship Systems sector.

TDI-Halter, the Offshore Division of Halter Marine Group, Inc., recently completed the new construction of the first LeTourneau Super 116-C design jackup drilling rig for Perforadora Central, S.A. de C.V. The jackup was christened Tonala by Gabriela Alvarez-Morphy, wife of Patricio Alvarez-Morphy, president and CEO. Halter utilized its rig and marine shipyards for the construction of Tonala. The three 46 ft. diameter spudcans, built at the South Yard, and three 477 ft. long legs, fabricated at the Orange Yard, were built in Texas and transported by barge to the Pascagoula facility. The wingtank modules and accommodation block were built in Mississippi at Halter's Gulfport facility. The cantilever beams were fabricated by Superior Fabricators in Louisiana, and installed in Pascagoula.

Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with SeaAmerica Cruise Lines, Inc., based in Hollywood, Fla. Under the MOA, LSS and SeaAmerica will develop a ship design leading to contract negotiations for the construction of two 42,000-ton, 1,000-passenger cruise ships. The program will include options for two additional ships. Construction of the ships would utilize both of Litton Ship Systems' production facilities, Litton Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula and Litton Avondale Industries in New Orleans, and would maximize the resources and experience of both shipyards to achieve operating synergies.
