Ampelmann Makes One Millionth Offshore Transfer in Middle East

Ampelmann, a Dutch company providing crew transfer gangways to the offshore energy industry, has said it has achieved a milestone of one million safe personnel transfers in the Middle East.The company said Wednesday that the milestone, which it took nearly a decade to achieve, was achieved during a project with vessel owner Halul Offshore Services, a subsidiary on Milaha.The millionth transfer crew transfer was made via Ampelmann's A-type system, that has been operating on the Halul 43 vessel since the beginning of 2020…

Massive Lift Boat Delivered to Milaha

Milaha has taken delivery of a new lift boat which will be deployed offshore, particularly in support of field maintenance efforts. Named the Milaha Explorer, the new lift boat was built by Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. at its yard in Liaoning Province in China, and was designed by the China-based Tianjin De-Sail Machinery Equipment Co. Ltd. Milaha Explorer will be the biggest lift boat to be owned by a Qatari company, with a large deck area and variable load capacity, as well as the ability to accommodate 300 persons on board.

Halul Brings OSV Ship Handling Simulator to Qatar

Halul Offshore Services Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Milaha, has recently procured an offshore support vessel (OSV) ship handling simulator, which is reportedly the first of its kind in Qatar. Halul said it is now one of the few companies in the Gulf region to own the Netherlands-built simulator, which is normally used in training schools. Milaha CEO Al-Hetmi to Step Down

Milaha president and CEO, Khalifa Ali Al-Hetmi, will retire in September, the Qatar-based marine transport and logistics conglomerate announced. Having joined Milaha 31 years ago, Al-Hetmi has been at the helm of Milaha for the past seven years. During his tenure as CEO, he oversaw the strategic acquisition of Qatar Shipping and Halul Offshore Services in 2010, and was responsible for the subsequent transformation of the newly created group and the launch of the Milaha brand in 2011.

Last month Maritime Reporter spent some time with Vivek Seth, CEO, of Qatar-based Halul Offshore  Services Company, for his insights on the impact of low oil prices in the Middle East and beyond. What is your background? I became part of the Milaha family when I joined Halul Offshore in February 2014 as CEO. I am a second generation Marine Engineer. After sailing as a C/E I took my first shore job as Technical superintendent in Hong Kong for more than two years. Subsequently, I got my Masters in Business Administration from UK.

Halul Offshore Awards L&T Shipbuilding Contracts

The orders from Halul Offshore Services Company are for design, construction, trials and commissioning of two Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) and two Anchor Handling, Towing, Supply and Support Vessels (AHTSSVs) and were secured against tough international competition. The PSVs will be equipped for firefighting, rescue and standby, offshore supply, oil recovery and related duties. They will have Diesel-electric propulsion and DP2 dynamic positioning capability. AHTSSVs, with a bollard pull of 90 tonnes, will be equipped for emergency response and rescue, offshore supply, oil recovery, standby and other related duties. and will also be provided with advanced Diesel-Hybrid propulsion and DP2 dynamic positioning capability.

Cargotec Nets Four OSV System Orders

MacGregor bulk handling systems are to be installed on four offshore support vessels (OSV) of various types under construction in Asia and Europe. In the last quarter of 2011 Cargotec secured contracts for MacGregor bulk handling systems for installation onboard four offshore support vessels (OSV) newbuildings belonging to two different owners; one in the UAE (two vessels) and the other in Spain (two vessels). At the end of November, Grandweld Shipyards in the United Arab Emirates ordered MacGregor bulk handling systems for two anchor-handling tug/supply (AHTS) vessels, hull Nos 389 and 390.

Halul to Purchase Four Offshore Vessels

Halul Offshore Services (HOSC) will buy four new safety standby vessels at a cost of about $16m and signed a contract with a Singaporean shipbuilder Pacific Ocean Engineering (POE). The contract for the vessels, expected to be built in 16 months at the POE’s shipyard in China, was signed by HOSC chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim al-Thani and POE managing director Raymond Quah. The vessels, designed to provide safety cover to offshore installations for protection and rescue operations, are equipped with fire fighting pumps, life saving gadgets and environment monitoring systems for checking poisonous hydrogen sulphide gas and flammable gases. Each vessel will have a fast rescue craft capable of being fast deployed for rescue of survivors from the sea.
