Diana Containerships Reports 4Q Loss

The Athens, Greece-based  global shipping company specializing in the ownership of containerships Diana Containerships Inc. has reported a loss of $8.8 million in its fourth quarter of 2015, compared to net income of $0.9 million for the respective period of 2014. The loss for the fourth quarter was mainly the result of $6.6 million of impairment charges of the vessel Hanjin Malta, without which the result for the fourth quarter of 2015 would have been a net loss of $2.2 million. The shipping company posted revenue of $14.9 million in the period. For the year, the company reported a loss of $17.5 million, or 24 cents per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $62.2 million.

Diana Containerships Inc. reported a net loss of $8.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2015, compared to net income of $0.9 million for the respective period of 2014. Diana Containerships Sells Panamax Ship for Scrap

Shipping company Diana Containerships Inc. has, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, signed a Memorandum of Agreement to sell to an unaffiliated third party the 1993-built vessel Hanjin Malta for demolition, with delivery due to the buyer by the end of March 2016, for a sale price of approximately $5.04 million before commissions. Upon completion of the aforementioned sale, Diana Containerships Inc.’s fleet will consist of 13 container vessels, including six Post-Panamax and seven Panamax vessels.

Diana Containerships Buy 'Hanjin Malta'

Diana Containerships Inc. has taken delivery of the m/v “Hanjin Malta”, a 1993-built Panamax container vessel of 4,024 TEU capacity. The Hanjin Malta is time chartered to Hanjin Shipping Co. Ltd., Seoul, for a period of minimum thirty-six and a half months to maximum thirty-eight months at a gross rate of US$25,550 per day less US$150.00 per day commission paid to third parties. The employment of the vessel is anticipated to generate approximately US$27.98 million of gross revenues for the minimum agreed period of the charter.
