Orsetd, Formerly Dong Energy, Sued over Name Change

(Photo: Orsted)

The descendants of Danish scientist Hans Christian Orsted will take legal action on Friday against one of Denmark's biggest companies over its decision to change its name to Orsted, their lawyer said. DONG Energy, the world's largest developer of offshore wind farms, in October renamed itself Orsted as part of its shift to renewable energy from oil and gas. DONG was short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas. It said the new name, chosen from more than 3,000 alternatives, was inspired by 19th century Danish physicist Hans Christian Orsted, who discovered electromagnetism.

Dong Energy Changes Name to Orsted

Following the profound strategic transformation from black to green energy and the recent divestment of the upstream oil and gas production, the name DONG Energy does not fit the company anymore. Consequently, DONG Energy has today called an Extraordinary General Meeting to ask the shareholders of the company to approve a change of the company name to Ørsted. Thomas Thune Andersen, Chairman of the Board of Directors, says: “DONG was originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas. With our profound strategic transformation and the divestment of our upstream oil and gas business, this is no longer who we are. “Our vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy.

It is now trying to pin down the details. While the rules do not target shipping specifically, some of the biggest rises in…

Proforma DAs on the Go

DA-Desk has launched a new service under its PortSpend ManagementTM solution, the Proforma Disbursement Account (PDA) Approval Mobile App. The mobile app is available to download from Google Play and App Store. Tanker and dry bulk operators are inundated with tasks that often have a tight deadline. While the proforma DA approval is a trivial task, it is also necessary and often urgent. In fact, many DAs are often approved outside of normal working hours, leaving many operators tied to their desks and systems at all hours. With the app, the operators can look up, review cost items and approve proforma DAs from anywhere at any time of the day or night. They maintain efficiency and reduce risk of jeopardizing a vessel arriving at port, without having to stay behind in the office.
