Hamburger Lloyd Receives Containership Newbuilding in China

On Tuesday September 10, 2013, Reederei Hamburger Lloyd (RHL) took command of the fourth 4,600 TEU Containership newbuilding (hull No. H1026A) from CSSC Shanghai, Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. In the course of the festive naming ceremony, the vessel was named RHL Calliditas by Bettina Pane, wife of Managing Director of RHL Hauke Pane. The container vessel RHL Calliditas will enter a time charter for account of CMA CGM, Marseille,on September 20 2013, and will trade between the Far East and West Africa, including South Africa and Sri Lanka, under the command of Captain Oleg Taran.

German Shipbuilding Prospects are Fair & Partly Cloudy

There are few maritime sites as spectacular as seeing a newly built cruise ship, in this case Celebrity Reflection, make the journey from the Meyer Shipyard, Papenburg up the river Ems to the North Sea.

While economies across Europe have essentially bumbled, stumbled and fumbled in the wake of the global economic meltdown, Germany has remained comparitively strong. Despite the general migration of shipbuilding to the Far East, we decided to check in on the current status of this proud nation with a strong maritime heritage. German shipbuilders concentrated in 2012 on building cruise ships, megayachts, freight ferries and additional high-value, specialty ships. In total, nine German shipyards across 12 shipbuilding sites supplied 21 sea going ships with a total tonnage of 473,700.

Hamburger Lloyd Takes Over 4,600 TEU Containership Newbuilding in China

On Thursday, May 2, 2013, Reederei Hamburger Lloyd took command of the third of four 4,600 TEU Containership Newbuildings (hull No. H1025A) from CSSC Shanghai, Jiangnan Changxing Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. Another vessel of the same type (No. H1026A) is expected to follow in August this year. In the course of the festive naming ceremony, the vessel was named RHL Constantia by Ms. Christine Wegner, lawyer and partner in the shipping law firm Cyrus Makowski. The container vessel, RHL Constantia, will enter a time charter for account of Mitsui O.S.K.

GL Rising Tonnage

With the classification of the gas tanker MT Gaschem Nordsee, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has passed the 80 million gross tons threshold. More than 6,870 ships are currently surveyed on a regular basis by Germanischer Lloyd. September 2007. The MT Gaschem Nordsee, flying the German flag, was delivered in late March by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)/ethylene tanker is the first of four gas tankers of the same hull type to be built in Germany by 2010 by the Meyer shipyard and its sister firm Neptun Shipyard.

Hansa Hamburg Shipping Launches Investment Fund

Hansa Hamburg Shipping International announced the launch of its latest fund issue, Margara mbH & Co. KG. The fund is available for subscription immediately and offers prospective investors the opportunity to invest in a state-of-the-art, highly versatile, double-hull Panamax tanker. "We are pleased to offer our investors an exciting capital investment opportunity with a planning horizon of around 14 years", explains Hansa Hamburg director Erich Schlegel. According to Schlegel, given the tanker's attractive purchase price and the favourable long-term market fundamentals, the fund is well-positioned for an above-average return on investment. Investors have the option of subscribing to the 2004 or 2005 tranches of the ordinary capital, the preference capital, or a combination of all three.

Hansa Hamburgā€™s MS Reinbek Christened

A new 1,600 TEU containership built for Hamburg-based issuing house Hansa Hamburg Shipping was christened the MS Reinbek at a special ceremony at the Port of Hamburg's Überseebrücke terminal. MS Reinbek is the second newbuilding in a series of four identical feeder ships built at the Meyer Werft shipbuilding company's Papenburg shipyard for Hansa Hamburg Shipping. Its christening comes six weeks after the christening of the first vessel in the series, the MS Eilbek. The latter has already successfully completed its second return voyage to Montreal via Antwerp and Liverpool for international shipping company CP Ships. The MS Reinbek has also been chartered to CP Ships and will likewise operate on its Northern Europe-Canada service.

Hansa Hamburg to Christen MS Barmbek

Hansa Hamburg Shippingā€™s series of four container feeders will soon be complete, with the 1,600 TEU MS "BARMBEKā€ scheduled for christening on July 2 at a ceremony at the Port of Hamburgā€™s Überseebrücke terminal. The MS "BARMBEKā€, like its sister ships, bears a name with a long tradition. Reederei Knöhr & Burchard Nfl., the vesselā€™s commercial manager and one of the oldest shipping companies in Germany, and has used the name "BARMBEKā€ for three other vessels, the first in 1895. The technical management of the latest MS "BARMBEKā€ is in the capable hands of the Hamburg-based Wappen Reederei shipping company. The MS "BARMBEKā€ is the last in a series of four container feeders. The vessels are highly flexible, making them equally well suited to both emerging markets and established routes.
