Sherwin-Williams Awarded for Work on USS Ronald Reagan

Sherwin-Williams said it was awarded Military Coatings Project Award of Excellence for exceptional coatings work on U.S. Navy’s Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrierUSS Ronald Reagan at SSPC 2014. The award recognizes exceptional coatings work performed on U.S. military ships, structures or facilities. “This award is truly an honor for our company in partnership with the U.S. Navy and IMIA,” said Mark Schultz, Marine Project Development Manager, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

Johnson Matthey Catalyst Selectively Reduces CO Emissions

“Compliance with both RICE NESHAP and Opacity Limits is now possible with this catalyst that selectively oxidizes CO, but not NO. Precious metal catalysts are widely used in HAPs converters to reduce CO emissions from IC engines in order to comply with the EPA’s RICE NESHAP regulation. Sherwin-Williams Launches New Epoxy Coating

Sherwin-Williams has launched Macropoxy® 80, a high-build HAPs-free epoxy coating formulated for application to marginally prepared and damp surfaces in marine and offshore applications. The coating combats steel corrosion caused by immersion in salt and fresh water, as well as from atmospheric exposures and can be applied at temperatures as low as 0o F (-18o C). A modified phenalkamine epoxy, Macropoxy 80 is recommended for use in coastal areas, salt and fresh water immersion, bilges and wet void areas, water and wastewater tanks, underwater hulls, and decks and superstructures. It can also be used as an anti-corrosive primer in an underwater hull system with anti-fouling coatings.

US Navy Selects Sherwin-Williams Coating

Saltwater is the ever-present, costly enemy of Navy ships – a major cause of corrosion. A new weapon in the anti-corrosion arsenal, Sherwin-Williams Polysiloxane XLE-80 HAPS Free, was showcased at Mega Rust 2011, held June 6-9 in Norfolk, Va. R.I. Shipyard Faces Penalties for EPA Violations

A shipyard in Providence, R.I., Promet Marine Services Corp., faces significant penalties for violating federal clean air and clean water laws. EPA has filed a complaint stating that Promet violated federal laws by discharging polluted water into the Providence River and by not getting the required air and water permits for its pressure washing, painting and related operations. Promet, which works on commercial, Coast Guard, military, and other marine vessels, is located in an area that fails to meet federal air quality standards for ozone and yet failed to comply with the Rhode Island “State Implementation Plan” for improving air quality. According to EPA, Promet was required to get a permit before it began to build or modify its facility at 242 Allens Ave.

Euronavy ES301 Surface Tolerant Anticorrosive

Sherwin-Williams offers Euronavy ES301, a solvent-free anticorrosive epoxy designed for application over marginally prepared surfaces. Sherwin-Williams acquired Euronavy in December 2008. “Euronavy ES301 is an extremely durable surface-tolerant coating that allows customers to protect their steel assets against corrosion in an extremely cost-effective way,” said Brad Rossetto, Vice President, Marketing, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings. The product can be applied with no dew point restrictions over damp steel surfaces and over flash-rust, reducing application time and costs. Coating can occur immediately after hydroblasting or other water preparation methods without drying.
