MARAD Awards $220 Mln in Port Infrastructure Grants

More than $220 million in discretionary grant funding has been awarded to improve U.S. port facilities in 16 states and territories through the Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Port Infrastructure Development Program, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced Thursday.“This $220 million in federal grants will improve America’s ports with nearly half the projects are located in Opportunity Zones, which were established to revitalize economically distressed communities,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L.

Los Angeles Port To Unveil New Downtown Harbor & Town Square

On Friday, June 20, at 6 p.m., the Port of Los Angeles will unveil the new centerpiece of the LA Waterfront: Downtown Harbor and Town Square, located on Harbor Boulevard, between 5th and 6th Streets in San Pedro. Situated between the World Cruise Center and Ports O’ Call Village at the foot of the San Pedro Historic Waterfront District, Downtown Harbor is a vibrant, new public harbor and plaza that connects downtown San Pedro to the LA Waterfront. “This project, which was completed on time and more than $4 million under budget, exceeds all of my expectations on design and feel,” said Los Angeles Councilman Joe Buscaino. “Downtown Harbor will become the source of memories that will last a lifetime.

LA Harbor Commission to Consider Final EIR

The Port of Los Angeles has released a Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Southern California International Gateway (SCIG) Project. The proposed project, which involves the construction and operation of a railyard on outer Port property, is located in an industrial area between Sepulveda Boulevard to the north, Pacific Coast Highway to the south, SR-47 to the east and the Dominquez Channel to the west. The Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners will consider certifying the Final EIR at its meeting on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 8:30 am. The original meeting location in the Final EIR notice has now been changed to the Cruise Center Terminal Annex Building, located at 390 N. Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro, just north of the USS IOWA.
