Offshore Casualty: Harkand Group Collapses

As the prolonged slump in energy prices continues to drag on a number of oil and gas and maritime players, word has it that Harkand Group has succumbed, according to staff reports and a report on www.bbc.com. The company was a high-flyer building an enviable fleet of advanced tonnage. Harkand Names Brown to Gulf of Mexico Management Team

Global inspection, repair, maintenance (IRM) and light construction company Harkand informs it has made a key appointment by securing Mike Brown as general manager of diving services in North America. A U.S. Navy veteran, Brown has considerable experience of commercial diving in the offshore oil and gas sector having held number of senior positions in a career spanning more than 35 years. He was most recently working with Chet Morrison Contractors as general manager of the offshore construction division.

Vard to Build Harkland Offshore DSC Vessel

Vard Holdings says it has secured a contract with a new customer, Harkand Group (Harkand), for the design and construction of a Diving Support and Construction (DSC) Vessel. The value of the contract exceeds NOK 1 billion. The vessel is scheduled for delivery from Vard Søviknes in Norway in 2Q 2016. and the hull is to be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania. The contract includes an option for a second similar DSC vessel. The new order will be of VARD 3 03 design, specially designed and equipped for diving and subsea operation duties with a high focus on good sea-keeping abilities…

Harkand, Siem Offshore Sign Charter Agreement

Harkand has entered into a charter agreement with Siem Offshore for the Offshore Subsea Construction Vessel (OSCV) Siem Spearfish. The agreement covers a firm period of five years with three yearly options and shall commence in May 2014. The vessel will support the development of the Harkand group in the provision of inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) services in the deep water Gulf of Mexico. The DP2 vessel, built by Vard in Norway, has a 250t crane and will be fitted with two Triton XLX ROVs, as well as a complete survey spread. The Spearfish addition to the Harkand fleet marks an important step forward in the company’s commitment to deep water activities.

Harkand Appoints New CEO

Internatioanl subsea inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) group Harkand announced the appointment of John Reed as its new chief executive officer as it embarks on the next stage of its ambitious growth strategy. Reed, an industry veteran with more than 30 years’ experience in the offshore engineering and construction sector, will lead the development of the company as it drives forward with its target of growing turnover to $1 billion in the next five years. Due to take over the reins in October, he replaces Nicolas Mouté who steered the group’s formation since inception and through the merger of Iremis, Integrated Subsea Services (ISS) and Andrews Survey following investment by Oaktree Capital Management and the acquisition of Veolia Marine Services.

Harkand Appoints Chief Financial Officer

Harkand, the international subsea inspection, repair, maintenance and light construction group, has appointed Deborah Stevenson as the company’s new chief financial officer. A former CFO of both private equity-backed and FTSE 250 businesses in engineering and asset rich companies, Stevenson has particular experience of helping rapidly expanding businesses as they prepare for the next stage of growth. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales and an Associate Member of the Chartered Association of Corporate Treasurers, she will be based in Aberdeen with a remit for Harkand’s global operations. Her initial focus will be on developing the company’s group finance function…

Harkand Makes Several Senior Appointments

Harkand strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of three senior figures as the company embarks on the next stage in its growth strategy. Kevin Gorman has joined as vice president of HR. One of two new newly created group positions, his appointment will allow Harkand to strengthen its capacity as it looks to grow its current 750-strong global workforce. He is joined by new group general counsel Colin Forbes. John Ewen has been appointed general manager for Harkand ISS, which serves Europe, Harkand’s largest region. All three posts will be based in Aberdeen.

Massive ROV Fleet Expansion by Harkand

The Harkand Group signs a deal with Forum Subsea Technologies that will see it extend its ROV fleet by 25% & create 30 new full time jobs. Harkand, formed through the recent merger of Iremis, Integrated Subsea Services (ISS) and Andrews Survey following investment by Oaktree Capital Management, has bases in Aberdeen in the UK, Dubai in the Middle East and Singapore and Perth in Asia Pacific. The program, which on delivery will see Harkand’s fleet grow to 29 vehicles, includes three Triton XLX 150HP workclass ROVs and one Comanche, with an option for a further two XLX vehicles.

A new subsea oil and gas group, Harkand, chaired by oil and gas industry veteran Tom Ehret, is launching  with an ambition to grow to a turnover of $1 billion in the next five years. Following investment by Oaktree Capital Management in Iremis, Integrated Subsea Services (ISS) and their sister company Andrews Survey last year, the three names have merged to form one group focused on the fast-growing subsea inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) market. Harkand aims to become a leading global name in subsea IRM focused on attaining the highest standards in health, safety, quality and environmental performance and delivering excellent execution of projects.
