Labor Leader Clyde Fitzgerald Appointed Port of Houston Commissioner

Harris County Commissioners Court has appointed longtime labor leader Clyde Fitzgerald to serve as a member of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. Fitzgerald's appointment fills the seat of former Port Commissioner Jim Fonteno, who submitted his resignation to Commissioners Court in April, indicating his desire to spend more time with his wife and two young daughters. Clyde Fitzgerald, who started his career at age 16 working on the wharves of the Houston Ship Channel, was sworn in Tuesday after Commissioners Court selected him to fill Fonteno's unexpired term.

Port of Houston: First Female Chairman Convenes Meeting

First female Chairman, two new Port Commissioners, to  release Port Industry Capital Investment Survey at the meeting. During the commission meeting, results of a major survey on capital and maintenance investments made by manufacturers for infrastructure along the Houston Ship Channel will also be released. Construction jobs and tax revenue are anticipated to increase significantly due to these investments. Port Commission Chairman Janiece Longoria was appointed during a joint session of the Harris County Commissioners Court and the Houston City Council earlier this month. She has served on the Port Commission on behalf of the City of Houston since September 2002. Joining Longoria in new positions on the Port Commission will be John D.Kennedy and Dean Corgey.

Houston City Council appoints Dean Corgey, V-P of the Seafarers International Union Gulf Coast Region, to serve as member of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. Corgey's appointment fills the seat previously held by Janiece Longoria, who was named Port Commission Chairman January 8 during a joint session of the Houston City Council and Harris County Commissioners Court. Kennedy Appointed to Houston Port Commission

Retired U.S. Army Colonel and Former Nassau Bay City Manager  Fills Seat. Harris County Commissioners Court appointed Ret. Col. John D. Kennedy to serve as a member of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority. His appointment fills the seat of former Port Commissioner Elyse Lanier, who tendered her resignation to the Harris County Commissioners Court this past Friday, indicating her desire to spend more time with her family. Kennedy's military service, as well as his professional career and community involvement in the greater Houston area spans the course of several decades.

Lanier Re-Appointed Port Commission, Houston

The Port of Houston Authority announced that Elyse Lanier has been re-appointed to serve as a member of the Port Commission, its governing body. The vote on October 12 by the Harris County Commissioners Court was unanimous. Commissioner Lanier was initially appointed to the Port Commission in February 2006. Port Commissioners serve two-year terms without pay. “Elyse Lanier is a prime example of the kind of people that make Houston and Harris County such a wonderful place to live and work,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.
