India’s largest private multi-port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) inaugurated two new 8,000m3 trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) on January 8. Both dredgers were built by Royal IHC in The Netherlands and recently arrived at Adani’s Hazira Port in Gujarat, India, after their maiden voyage through the Suez Canal. The vessels are the 11th and 12th dredgers supplied by Royal IHC to APSEZ and are among the largest in the Indian fleet of TSHDs. “[The new dredgers] will substantially increase our capacity for dredging.

Adani Hazira Port Pvt. Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Co SA has expanded the port rotation of its India-South Africa service by introducing a direct call at Hazira, a privately-operated cargo complex on India’s west coast, in an attempt to pick up additional hinterland cargo. Hazira Port, which is about 120 nautical miles north of JNPT, is operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, India’s biggest port infrastructure developer. "MSC would like to inform customers that we have strengthened our coverage on our South Africa service with the introduction of a weekly direct call at Hazira in addition to Nhava and Mundra," says a statement from the company. The South Africa service, operates with six vessels with vessel capacity of up to 5,400 TEU.

Adani Hazira Port Private Limited (AHPPL), a 100% subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited, had challenged the order dated 8.1.2016 passed by the National Green Tribunal, Pune, inter alia, cancelling the EC 3.5.2013 for expansion of facilities at Adani Hazira Port. The matter was heard by the Hon'ble Supreme Court today and the Court has stated that the port operations can continue as usual. Therefore, there is no impact on port operations. EC dated 3.5.2013 permitted construction of liquid cargo storage which is already completed. The Court has said that AHPPL can continue construction activity as per EC dated 26.6.2003 which was anyway not challenged. Thus, there is no impact on further construction as well.

India's New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) Chairman P.C. Parida said the port is confident of completing work on the proposed Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) terminal which shall be operational in 2017. NMPT is the first Indian port to start the Ro-Ro service from Mangaluru to Hazira port, he said. According to Parida, the LNG terminal will help provide clean fuel at cost-effective rates to citizens. Parida said the fire-fighting facilities at the port are being upgraded to handle VLGC (very large gas carrier) vessels. This shall be operational by September. MSC Tomoko will be the first vessel to call at Hazira on 2nd July 2015. Seven MSC 9,000 TEU vessels will be deployed on the upgraded service, offering fixed day weekly service to and from Hazira. Port Rotation: Nhava Sheva-Hazira-Mundra-Salalah-Gioia Tauro-Valencia-Rotterdam-Antwerp-Felixstowe-King Abdullah- Salalah-Port Qasim-Nhava Sheva. MSC has been serving Hazira Port with a dedicated feeder since early 2013, when this port opened for operations. Now, with a direct mainline call, MSC reaffirms its commitment to customers in India. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) today said its Hazira port had recently handled a record quantity of rock phosphate of 188,684 metric tonnes, highest amongst any commercial port in single calendar month. With this feat, Adani Hazira Port surpassed Kandla Port’s all time best of handling the similar cargo of 182,748 metric tonnes in June 2012. With this, Adani Hazira port has established a unique position in the handling of rock phosphate on the west coast of India. Rock Phosphate is the key raw material for manufacturing of Phosphoric acid, and Single Super Phosphate fertilizer. This milestone has been achieved due to sustained patronage of the SSP manufacturers and persistence support of the suppliers and traders of rock phosphate and the transporter fraternity.

Heavy Lift vessels visiting Indian ports are in for berthing delays at various ports. * In Mumbai Port, berthing delays of approx 10 days for vessel opting for BPS & BPX berths and for Harbour wall berth it is 8 days. For priority vessel it is approx 4 to 5 days. No delays inside Indira docks. * Waiting time in Nhava Sheva shallow water berth is  NIL to 1 day and depends further on the performance of ships at berth and cement vessel calling in near future. * Kandla port - berthing delays in normal import  is 8 to 9 days & normal export group is approx 2 to 3 days, and in 24 hrs group it is expected to be between 24 hrs to 36 hrs. * Mundra port is presently free from congestion. * Adani Hazira port - situation is normal. * Waiting period at Adani Dahej port is approx min 8 to 10 days.

Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd, India’s largest port developer and part of Adani Group, today announced financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2014. Consolidated cargo handled by the company was 33.83 MMT in Q1FY15, an increase of 27%, over corresponding quarter last year. Adani ports at Mundra handled 28.86 MMT cargo in Q1FY15 thereby continuing its leadership as the largest commercial port in India. The Mundra port registered a 22% growth in Q1FY15 compared to 4% aggregate cargo growth at all major ports. Also, in case of containers, the Mundra port handled 681,000 TEUs in Q1FY15 as against 477,000 TEU’s in corresponding quarter last year resulting in a 43% growth as compared to growth of 4% aggregate growth in container volumes at all the major ports.

Heavy Lift & Project vessels calling at Indian ports are experiencing congestion, which according to the trade is an artifically created situation. They point out that unlike other vessels, Heavy Lift vessels turnaround time may extends to two to three days or even more. Because of their longer turnaround time heavy lift and project cargo vessels are not being given preferential berthing at most leading Indian ports creating in a kind of a 'pseudo congestion' situation at most ports. Besides, there is a lack of storage space generally at most ports for heavy lift and ODC (Over dimensional cargo) further aggravating the situation. 1) In Mumbai Port as on date there is berthing delays of approx 2 to 3 days for BPS & BPX berths and for Harbour wall berth the delay in getting berthing is approx 1 day. (Essar Ports), part of Essar and one of the largest port companies of India, today announced its audited results for the financial year 2013-13 and for quarter ended March 2014. * Net Profit for the year increased by 16% to Rs. 383.7 crore from Rs. 331.6 crore for the previous year. For Q4 FY14, the Net Profit  reduced by 1% to Rs. 90.8 crore from Rs. 92.1 crore in Q4 FY13. *  Earnings Per Share for the year was Rs 8.97 as against Rs 7.80 for previous year. Earnings Per Share for Q4 FY14 was Rs. 2.12 as against Rs. 2.15 for Q4 FY13. *  Essar Ports board recommends a dividend of 5 % (Rs. by 13% to Rs. 1637.4 crore from Rs. 1448.6 crore for the previous year. For Q4 FY14, the Revenues increased by 5% to Rs 415.5 crore from Rs 396.7 crore in Q4 FY13.

An Indian subsidiary of Royal Dutch/Shell said on Monday preliminary work for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in India had begun and work for the main facility would start in November. The 19.50-billion-rupee ($414-million) project in western India will handle LNG imports up to five million tons a year, and the company could double its capacity if there is enough demand. "Hazira Port Pvt Ltd, a 100-percent Royal Dutch/Shell Group company, has awarded a contract for the building of access roads, pipeline crossings and other civil works for the Hazira port and LNG terminal," a company statement said. It said the contract was awarded to Essar Projects Ltd, which began work in July.
