Keppel Makes a Clean Sweep at WSH Awards
Keppel Group has clinched 35 awards at this year's Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards, organised by the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC) and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore. It is the highest number of awards won by a single organisation this year. Of the 35 awards, Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) bagged 31 awards under the Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) category for its exemplary safety performance as well as good safety and health management systems. Keppel Shipyard also clinched the WSH Innovation Award with the Coupler Repair Workbench. The winning project team developed a jig to help to lock the coupler in place, thus reducing physical contact that workers have with the coupler and impact wrench, thereby minimising risks of injury.
Martinez Head NSWC Indian Head EOD
Capt. Vincent Martinez relieved Capt. Thomas Smith, II, as commanding officer of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division (NSWC IHEODTD) during a change of command ceremony at Indian Head, Md., June 26. Martinez served most recently as the Deputy Director, Navy Staff, Pentagon Washington, D.C. A native of Syracuse, New York, Martinez received his commission from Officer Candidate School in 1988. His initial training included Surface Warfare, Basic Diving and Salvage Officer and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). He has earned designations as a Surface Warfare Officer, Special Operations Officer, Master EOD Technician, Naval Parachutist and Acquisition Professional.
Continental Receives Star Status From OSHA
Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. OSHA, ASA Renew Partnership
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) headquarters, Assistant Secretary of Labor for OSHA, Mr. Edwin G. Foulke, Jr., and American Shipbuilding Association (ASA) President, Ms. Cynthia L. Brown, signed an agreement renewing an alliance between OSHA and the American Shipbuilding Association. The Alliance Agreement, in place since 2003, seeks to promote cooperative relationships between management, labor, and OSHA, and the implementation of comprehensive safety and health management systems in the workplace. Providing expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and providing expertise in developing ways of communicating such information.
