TECO 2030 Launches Compact Fuel Cell System

TECO 2030 has launched what it claims to be the world’s most power dense marine and heavy-duty fuel cell module, the FCM400.The FCM400 has already an Approval in Principle from DNV and currently undergoes type approval process for maritime and heavy-duty applications. FCM400 is inherently gas-safe to accommodate easy integration onboard a ship for zero emission energy generation.TECO 2030 says the modular 400kW fuel cell system includes industry leading energy efficiency, inherent safety concept, leading dimensions and component design and rapid dynamic load response.

Baudouin Unveils 6F21 Marine Engine

French engine manufacturer Moteurs Baudouin has unveiled the 6F21, its new 6-cylinder, 12.5-liter engine producing up to 735 kW/1000 HP.The 6F21 includes a strengthened engine structure to withstand high torque and a higher cylinder pressure well over 200 bar, the manufacturer said. A two-stage turbocharger system is also fitted on the engine, along with two intercoolers, and a high-end common rail system, operating at 2200 bar. Echandia, Toshiba Partner On Fuel Cells for Maritime

Mitsubishi Names New US West Coast Distributor

Asia's First Hybrid Electric Ferry Heralds Cleaner Sea Travel

The Taiwanese harbor city of Kaohsiung has launched a new hybrid electric ferry, which aims to curb greenhouse and diesel emissions for marine passenger transport across the region. Kaohsiung recently re-launched the Cijian Island passenger ferry, retrofitted with a Visedo electric propulsion system, replacing the original diesel engine. It heralds Asia’s first hybrid electric ferry and, if successful, the Kaohsiung City Government plans to retrofit the rest of its diesel fleet to help reduce pollution levels around Taiwan’s largest harbor.

Air Hoists Give Tank Cleaning a Lift

More and more companies are turning to air-operated hoists for effective ways to clean storage tanks, manufacturer J D Neuhaus (JDN) reports. Typically, injector heads with nozzles are used to clean inside these inherently dirty vessels by dispensing hot/cold water or steam at high pressures. Caterpillar to Equip 4 AHTS for Grupo CBO

Caterpillar Marine informed that its Cat® power and propulsion solutions have been selected to power four AHTS vessels for Grupo CBO, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each AHTS vessel will be equipped with 4 x 6 M 32 C propulsion engines rated at 3000 bkW and Cat Propulsion controllable pitch propellers. Additionally, Cat will again power the third PSV in a series for Grupo CBO with 4 x 3512C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) generator sets rated at 1700 ekW as well as 1x C18 for harbor/emergency power. The 180 ton bollard pull AHTS vessels will be designed by Hayvard Design and Solutions, using an adapted version of its 843 design.

John Deere Expands Tier 3 Engine Line

John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) has introduced new propulsion ratings to its EPAMarine Tier 3 engine offerings. The new PowerTech 4045TFM85 propulsion ratings expand the John Deere Marine Tier 3 lineup with two ratings for continuous and heavy duty applications (M1 rating with 75 kW (100 hp) at 2,400 rpm and M2 rating with93 kW (125 hp) at 2,500 rpm). The PowerTech 4.5L ratings join the lineup of John Deere Marine Tier 3 propulsion engines from 75 to 559 kW (100 to 750 hp).The 4045TFM85 ratings meet U.S.

Wamalhanha is the final newbuild in a series of six tugs of the Robert Allan Design, RAstar 3200 where her main duties will be terminal activities, escort duties, ship assist, towage duties. She was named on September 24, 2014 at UZMAR Workboat and Tug Factory for delivery. Rio Tinto owns six vessels in this series, these arePilbara Apollo, Kashima, Matsuzaka, Barrura, Gurrgura and Wamalhanha.These vessels have been adapted to requirements for the work in Australian Iron Ore Terminals including power and improved NOx and SOx reduction for the exhaust emissions.

Cat Power Solution for Teekay Offshore

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion offerings have been selected to provide complete propulsion solutions for four ocean-going towing vessels designed by Ulstein Design and Solutions. Each vessel will have four 9 M 32 C propulsion engines, rated at 4,500 bkW at 600 rpm. Also onboard each vessel will be three Cat C32 auxiliary generator sets rated at 940 ekW at 1,800 rpm as well as one Cat C9 generator set to provide emergency power. All four vessels will be equipped with two AEM shaft generators rated at 3,150 ekW at 1,200 rpm.

Workboat with MAN EPA Tier 3 Engine Launched in the US

MAN L27/38 for Heavy-Duty Offshore Propulsion

Dubai-based Grandweld Shipyards has been appointed to build two Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels for undisclosed offshore operators. The AHTS newbuildings, will each be powered by two 8 cylinder MAN L27/38 main engines delivering a total of 2 x 2,720 kW in a standard twin screw propulsion layout for the drive of two ducted cp propellers. The calculated bollard pull is 90 ton. The engines for the 1st and 2nd vessel will be shipped from Denmark 2012 in the weeks 18 and 22 respectively. The L27/38 medium-speed propulsion engine is a popular workhorse for heavy-duty applications like e.g. offshore supply and service vessels, anchor handlers, tugs and workboats.
