First LNG-Powered Tugboat Sets Sails

M/T Borgøy, the world’s first tug to be fuelled by the much more environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG), designed by Norwegian Buksèr og Berging in-house team with the assistance of Marine Design AS in Norway, further developed by Sanmar’s modern shipyard in Istanbul, completed her sea trials successfully this month and started her maiden voyage to Norway on January 14. On December 13, 2013 the 6,000 kW ASD tug Ocean Tundra was commissioned into service for its Owners, Ocean Group Inc. (Ocean) of Quebec City, Canada. This icebreaking escort tug becomes the most powerful tug in Canadian registry, and heralds a new generation of extremely capable tugs which will provide the highest degree of year-round escort towing capability to Canada’s east coast and the St. Lawrence River and Seaway system. Northwind Supplies Fire/Rescue Boat Virginia Beach

Another of Northwind Marine's 30-ft. Argus class fire, search, and rescue boats has headed east from Seattle, Wash. The boat was built for Virginia Beach, Va., where fire, rescue, and police departments watch over the waterways, marinas, and other facilities in the Hampton Roads area of Chesapeake Bay. The aluminum boat with decades of design and construction experience behind it joined a department with active fire and rescue operations.
