Shipbuilder Damen Sues Dutch Gov't over Russia Sanctions

Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards has sued the Dutch government over damages it says it has suffered due to European sanctions against Russia.Damen, which produces a wide-ranging fleet of industrial and military vessels and luxury yachts, is seeking compensation for business lost due to the sanctions, company spokesman Rick van de Weg said, confirming an earlier report by Bloomberg.Damen had delivery contracts for a number of vessels across the company's portfolio that were scrapped by the sanctions invoked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Van de Weg said.Damen had an engineer

Heesen's Vida Departs for Maiden Voyage

The 55 metre Heesen superyacht Vida (formerly known as Project Antares) has left Dutch waters for her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean where she will meet her new owners. Vida underwent rigorous sea trials earlier in March. New MTU Hybrid Propulsion Systems Introduced

As of 2020, Rolls-Royce will launch a range of completely integrated MTU hybrid ship propulsion systems onto the market. New Fast Displacement Yacht is First with Hybrid Propulsion

A new motoryacht built by built by the Netherlands’ Heesen Yachts is the world’s first Fast Displacement equipped with hybrid propulsion. Christened M/Y Home, the vessel is ultra-efficient, low fuel-burning and one of the quietest on the oceans. There are two sources of power for propulsion: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Either source can be used independently or simultaneously, providing less noise and vibration, more flexible power management and increased efficiency.

New Inert Gas Systems from Alfa Laval

LNG and LPG carrier tanks hold both a source of income and a potential source of danger. To avert the danger, inert gas systems (IGS) have been required on all new tankers over 20,000 dwt since 1978 — a move that has surely saved untold lives. International Recognition for Fast Displacement Hull Form

Galactica Star, the first vessel to feature the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), has won the award for the best high-speed yacht over 45 meters in length at the World Super Yacht Awards on May 3, 2014. The jury reported that the award was granted because of Galactica Star’s “technically innovative FDHF (Fast Displacement Hull Form) design, developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects”. Van Oossanen started the development of this new type of hull form in 2009. This was driven by their passion to develop vessels that are highly efficient both at lower cruising speeds and at high speeds.

Heesen Yachts Introduce New Superyacht Design

The Netherlands luxury yachtbuilder, Heesen Yachts, presents a new 58m superyacht in collaboration with Italian designer Francesco Paszkowsk. The relationship between Heesen Yachts and this Italian designer dates back to the Nineties with the creation of the exterior lines of the splendid 35 metre motor yacht Opus II and more recently with the interior design of two vessels in the 50 metre semi-displacement class. The exterior lines of this new 58 metre design combine elements inspired by automotive and aeronautical stylistic elements. The result is a design exuding power in every detail.

Heesen Yachts Contracts for Superyachts

According to a Feb. 2 report from the SuperYachtTimes.com, the sale of the first of these, YN 16551, a 51-metre, full-displacement vessel was completed in December 2010 to create an enviable total of seven vessels sold during that year. The first sale of 2011 – YN 15850, a 50-metre, all-aluminium semi-displacement vessel – was completed in January 2011. The contract has been signed thanks to a fruitful collaboration with Burgess. NAIAD Acquires VT Motion Control Group

USA Naiad Maritime Group, Inc. and VT Group plc (VT) announced Naiad Maritime Group’s completion of the acquisition of the collection of businesses known as the VT Motion Control Group, including Naiad Marine Systems, Maritime Dynamics, Vosper Motion Control and Vosper Stabilizers.
