Johns Receives 2011 Connie Award From CII

Connie Luncheon Held at The Newark Club, December 5; Stanley Sher Given Lifetime Achievement Recognition. Connie Award recipient is R. Kenneth Johns, former president of Sea-Land Service Inc. The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) presented the 2011 Connie Award to Robert Kenneth (Ken) Johns, former president of Sea-Land Service Inc., for his significant influence in containerization in worldwide trade and transportation. The Connie Awards luncheon was held Monday, December 5 at The Newark (NJ) Club and marked 40 years of Connie Awards. A Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to Stanley Sher, a maritime attorney in Washington D.C.…

MSC Ships & Crew Honored

The masters and crews of three Military Sealift Command ships were honored Nov. 7 at the annual United Seamen's Service Admiral of the Ocean Sea Awards banquet in New York City. This event, attended by more than 730 maritime leaders, honored mariners aboard U.S. government-owned and other U.S. flagged ships who displayed outstanding seamanship, courage and devotion to duty at sea. MSC Observes National Maritime Day

More than 200 guests attended Military Sealift Command's annual National Maritime Day ceremony at Willard Park on the Anacostia River at the historic Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., to honor some unsung heroes of our nation's defense -- America's merchant mariners. Vice Adm. David L. Brewer III, USN, commander, MSC, hosted the ceremony that was attended by former Maryland congresswoman Helen Bentley as well as current and former members of the maritime service and military.
