Supreme Court Sides With Offshore Worker in Overtime Case

An oil rig supervisor who earned more than $200,000 a year working for Houston-based Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc is entitled to overtime pay, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday in a decision with costly implications for the oil and gas industry.The court in a 6-3 decision authored by liberal Justice Elena Kagan decided that because the rig supervisor, Michael Hewitt, was paid a daily rate of $963 and not a salary, an overtime pay exemption in federal wage law for highly paid workers did not apply to him.The justices affirmed a 2021 ruling by the New Orleans-based 5th U.S.

Petrobras Extends Helix Well Intervention Vessel

Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. announced on Monday that it entered into a two-year extension of its well intervention charter and services contracts with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) for the Siem Helix 2 well intervention vessel offshore Brazil. The negotiated extension is scheduled to conclude in December 2024 and directly follows Helix’s current contracts with Petrobras.The Siem Helix 2 is a purpose-built, advanced well intervention vessel capable of performing a wide range of subsea services including production enhancement, well decommissioning, subsea installation, offshore crane and remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations, offshore construction and emergency response.

Skandi Constructor Set for Work in Gulf of Mexico in 2015

Siem Offshore in New Offshore Well Intervention Vessels Deal

Siem Offshore Inc. say they have signed agreements with Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. to provide 2 well-intervention vessels which will be owned by Siem Offshore and chartered by Helix for an initial period of 7 years, with options that can extend the charter periods up to 22 years. Helix Awards Huisman Contract

Huisman won a new contract from Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. for the delivery of a Well Intervention System onboard Helix’s new build Semi submersible “Q7000”. The system, which is based on Huisman’s proven Multi Purpose Tower (MPT) design, will be built by the Huisman production facility in China. BP Claims Progress on Long-Term Solution

According to a June 13 report from MarketWatch, BP PLC said it was taking steps to implement a more permanent arrangement to capture the oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, as U.S. officials continued to demand more compensation for the spill. Equipment had been installed and put in place over the weekend as BP worked to put together a system with the flexibility to respond to adverse weather conditions, such as a hurricane, and a bigger storage capacity, BP said. In addition, Helix Energy Solutions Group Inc. said late on June 13 that one of its three offshore oil and gas production facilities was contracted by BP to process and offload crude oil and associated gas. Helix Receives LOI for Reliance Project in India

Helix Energy Solutions Group, Inc. has executed a letter of intent with Allseas Marine Contractors S.A. for the installation of the subsea infrastructure in connection with Allseas' engineering, procurement, installation and construction of Reliance Industries Ltd.'s Dhirubhai gas field development project in the Krishna Godavari Basin in the Bay of Bengal. Helix plans to use its deepwater construction vessel Express and its dive support vessel Eclipse on this project. The work consists of the installation suction piles, manifolds, rigid jumpers and spool pieces, flying leads and trees. The work is scheduled to commence in the fourth] quarter of 2007. The estimated contract value is in the $140-150 MM range and the vessel utilization exceeds 400 days.
