First LNG Carrier to Oman Drydock

One of the biggest and most modern ship repair yards in the Middle East, Oman Drydock Company (ODC), has recently received its first LNG carrier, the Muscat LNG, owned by Oman Shipping Corporation SAOC. As part of its middle term service, Muscat LNG underwent the service operation at ODC during 11 days and was delivered within the estimated 12 days. The service operation for Muscat LNG included the mechanical cleaning of the main boilers and the fire sides. She was pressure tested and the LNG Cargo pumps, the ballast pumps and the safety and mounting valves for the main boiler were overhauled.

Buss Data to Receive Complete Broadband Communications Solution from Vizada and Telemar

Hamburg, 9 March 2011 – Vizada, the leading independent satellite communications provider and Telemar, the leading integrated service and maintenance provider, have just signed a 3-party deal with the German IT company Buss Data GmbH, a part of Hermann Buss Group, to provide a high-performance broadband communications solution for the company’s fleet of vessels. The Hermann Buss Group shipping company based in Leer, Germany specializes in commercial shipping and runs a fleet of over 85 vessels.

Double Launching at HDW-Gaarden

On September 5, two 2,700 TEU container ships were launched at HDW-Gaarden in , a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. The two container ships are the second and the third of a series of three ships for the Hermann Buss shipping line in Leer. The MAIN TRADER was named by Gabriela Meyer, the wife of Jens-Uwe Meyer, financial consultant to the shipping line. The Mosel Trader was named by Dr. Ulrike Schäfer, the wife of Dr. Matthias Schäfer of the Buss family. Both ships will be chartered to the Chinese T.S. Lines Limited headquartered in and will operate in Asian waters.

Containership Launched in Germany

The christening ceremony for the first of a series of three 2,700 TEU container ships took place on June 20 in Kiel at HDW-Gaarden, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. All three ships are ordered by the Buss Group. The DONAU TRADER officially got her name from the godmother Brunhild Buss, the wife of Hermann Buss, Managing Partner of the Buss Group. The DONAU TRADER will be initially operated by the shipping line Hamburg Süd. The ship will leave the shipyard on Monday, June 23, to be employed worldwide.

MAN B&W Win Engine Orders for Container Vessels

. The MAN B&W Diesel Group has won orders for engines from the successful 48/60B and 58/64 medium-speed series for eleven new container vessels at three Chinese shipyards. The recently ordered diesel engines are intended for the propulsion of container feeders from the German shipping companies Werner Bockstiegel, Hermann Buss and Peter Doehle. To date, a total of 101 MAN B&W engines, at a capacity of approx. one million HP, manufactured at the Augsburg location, have been ordered from China; 48 engines at a capacity of 400 000 HP during the course of this year alone. This gives the MAN B&W Diesel Group a dominant market share in medium-speed propulsion engines in China. These eleven engines will propel feeder vessels at a capacity of between 900 and 1 100 containers (TEU).

News: China Preps To Take World Lead

Rapidly rising prices for steel plate in China may be taking the edge off the financial performance at some Chinese shipbuilders. But it will take a lot more than that to undermine shipyards' dramatic expansion plans aimed at ensuring the country's builders produce more ships than any other nation by 2015. In the short run, however, the country's relatively inexperienced builders seem to have failed to read the steel supply signs.
