HHLA Receives New Container Gantry Cranes

German logistics and transportation company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has announced that it has taken delivery of three new container gantry cranes for its Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) in Hamburg port.According to a press release, this will provide HHLA with additional capacities for handling ultra-large container vessels with a cargo volume of 23,000 standard containers (TEU) and more.The new gantry cranes manufactured by ZPMC will replace three smaller units at CTB, which have already been dismantled.The three container gantry cranes arrived at their temporary berth at Athabaskakai on board the special ship “Zhen Hua 27” after a journey of almost eight weeks.

HyperloopTT, Hamburg Port Operator in Shipping JV

Port of Hamburg terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA) joined force with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HyperloopTT/HTT) to form a new company.According to a press release from HTT, the company will focus on integrating the latest container movement innovations with hyperloop technology into the largest rail port in Europe. Additionally, the new company will bring this new technology to ports, shipping, and logistics companies around the world.The joint venture will develop and bring to market a Hyperloop transport system for seaport and inland shipping container operations. Eco-friendly Power for Container Ships in Hamburg Port

Port of Hamburg is taking a further step toward improving air quality at its port. Innovative technology developed right here in the city is set to enable large and very large container ships to switch off their auxiliary diesel supplies during lay time and instead draw the power they need for on-board operations from a new kind of mobile generator.Becker Marine Systems, Hapag-Lloyd AG and Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) have been testing the new technology as part of a joint pilot project since the start of the year. Technology supplier Becker Marine Systems developed the mobile power generator, then partnered with Hapag-Lloyd and HHLA for the test phase.

HHLA Completes Acquisition of Estonian Transiidikeskuse

Germany’s Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) has completed the acquisition of Estonia’s largest terminal operator, Transiidikeskuse AS (TK). The last conditions that the sales contract dated 26 March 2018 was subject to were recently fulfilled, resulting in all shares in Transiidikeskuse AS being transferred to HHLA International GmbH. As a result, the transaction has now been completed. Chairwoman of HHLA’s Executive Board, Angela Titzrath, made this comment during a visit to the Estonian capital of Tallinn: “We’re delighted that the takeover has now been completed. This will allow us to successfully advance the ongoing integration of TK into the HHLA Group.

HHLA’s Container Transporters Run on Green Energy

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) increases efforts to improve the city’s air quality. Container transporters powered by lithium-ion batteries will move the containers at HHLA Container Terminal Alternwerder (CTA) between ships and the yard in future. The use of green energy prevents any CO2, nitric oxide or particulate matter from being emitted and the vehicles are also three times more efficient than their diesel-powered predecessors. Hamburg Welcomes Its Largest Ever Box Ship

The largest ever containership to call at the port on the Elbe berthed in Hamburg early on Thursday morning, March 15. The oceangoing giant CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery made its maiden call at the Port of Hamburg's HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) where it will discharge approximately 7,000 TEU and load 4,000. The 400-meter-long CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupery, delivered to French owner CMA CGM earlier this year, has a capacity of 20,776 TEU. End-to-end, those containers would cover a distance of over 125 kilometers. The mega ship sails on the FAL 1 service (French Asia Line 1), which connects Asia to Northern Europe. With one heave, gantry cranes at Burchardkai can lift two 40-foot or four 20-foot containers, with a total weight of 110 tons.

HHLA: New Mega-Ship Gantry Cranes Off to a Strong Start

The COSCO Netherlands was the first ship to be processed by the five new container gantry cranes at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT), which are equipped to handle ships with a capacity of more than 20,000 standard containers (TEU). Three of these high-performance gantry cranes have been put into service at Tollerort in the last few days. Two identical gantry cranes have been processing mega-ships at berth 5 since November 2016. On Friday morning, 20 October, the approximately 13,400 TEU-capacity COSCO Netherlands arrived at CTT and left again on Saturday night. During this time, the mega-ship gantry cranes discharged and loaded approximately 7,000 TEU onto the ship.

HHLA Records Strong Earnings

German Shipper Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) recorded significant year-on-year growth in its key performance indicators in the first half of 2017. Group revenue rose by almost 9 percent to EUR 622.8 million (USD 736.24 million). While the Group’s operating result (EBIT) climbed by approximately 48 percent to € 98.8 million, the Port Logistics subgroup’s EBIT grew by just over 54 percent to € 90.6 million. This was primarily attributable to higher earnings in the Container segment due to an increase in volumes as well as to the successfully completed restructuring in the Logistics segment, which let to one-off expenses in the first half of 2016.

HHLA's Revenue & Earnings Rise

In the first half of 2014, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) increased its revenue by 5.2 percent to € 595.7 million and improved its operating result (EBIT) by 3.4 percent to € 81.4 million. HHLA has confirmed its forecast for the full year 2014. “Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG has achieved a favourable performance in the first half of 2014. We have maintained our significantly expanded market position in container handling as well as the growth trend for our container transport services, with a further rise in market shares. This has enabled us to generate higher revenue and improve our earnings. Despite rising competitive pressure and continuing infrastructure restrictions, this is a highly significant development”, said Klaus-Dieter Peters, Chairman of HHLA’s Executive Board.

HHLA Creates 50 Jobs at Container Terminal Burchardkai

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) said it needs 50 additional commercial employees for the container terminal Burchardkai (CTB). The company continues its personnel actions started last year with which they respond to the growing peak loads in container handling. Heinz Brandt , Chief Human Resources Officer of HHLA, explained, "Everyone involved in the entire supply chain must adjust to the fact that peak loads in future be even stronger than previously occur regularly. In order to offer our many years of quality continue, we need additional staff. That's why we have new employees set last year 100 for the container terminal Altenwerder and Burchardkai whose qualification partially still ongoing.

At Hamburg port E-mobility Project, BESIC enters crucial phase

Ten battery-operated heavy goods vehicles now transport containers between ships and the yard at the highly automated handling facility in the HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA). The aim is to charge the batteries of these container transporters when the grid has a surplus of renewable energy generated in northern Germany. The first battery-powered heavy goods vehicles in the world went into use at the HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) back in 2011. Now, a project is bringing together businesses and research institutions that are keen to find out how the batteries for these automated guided vehicles (AGVs) can be charged using surplus green power generated in northern Germany.

First voyage of the CMA CGM Marco Polo

Hamburg was the first continental European port of call on the maiden voyage of the CMA CGM Marco Polo. The mega-ship, with a capacity of 16,020 standard containers, is being handled at the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai. The French shipping company CMA CGM sets great store by Hamburg because of its geographic location and hinterland links. On Wednesday morning, the CMA CGM Marco Polo became the first container mega-ship with a capacity of more than 16,000 standard containers (TEU) to call at the Port of Hamburg.
