Coral EnergICE Named in Finland

The first liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier to hold 1A Super ice class was named Coral EnergICE during a ceremony at the Port of Turku, Finland on January 25. The 18,000-cubic-meter capcity Coral EnergICE was constructed by German shipbuilder Neptun Werft for owner Anthony Veder, and will be operated by Skangas to transport LNG to the Skangas terminal in Pori and the joint venture Manga LNG terminal Tornio in Finland. The LNG carrier is the third Anthony Veder has delivered to Skangas in the past five years.

The U.S. Navy warship that famously fired the first American shot in World War II has been found resting on the seabed in Ormoc Bay near Ponson Island in the Philippines. Vard Bags Electrical Work for UK Polar Research Ship

Vard Holdings Limited's subsidiary Vard Electro AS has secured a contract for the delivery of an engineering and electrical installation package for U.K.’s new $290 million polar research vessel under construction for the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). Vard’s contract signed with Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Ltd includes engineering resources to support the shipyard in the drawing approval process, complete electro installation onboard, and systems and products developed by Vard Electro. The value of the contract is nearly $12 million. Expected to become operational in 2019, the 130-meter-long polar research vessel will be named RRS David Attenborough and will be equipped with VARD’s SeaQ Communications system…

Damen Yichang Shipyard Broadens its Shipbuilding Portfolio

Damen Yichang Shipyard in China, a joint venture between Damen Shipyards Group and Sinotrans CSC, is rolling out a larger portfolio of vessels to a wider market audience. The yard on the Yangtze River is already building a number of specialized pontoons, whilst plans for dredgers and LPG tanker construction are being finalized. “Over the years we have achieved a good reputation for delivery time, reliability and quality,” said Hans Voorneveld, Executive Director at Damen Shipyards Group. “We’re looking at dredgers, pontoons and barges, LNG/LPG tankers and offshore support vessels, such as platform suppliers, “he added. The plans have been revealed within shipyard’s strategy switch to a new direction in shipbuilding, targeting more technologically advanced ships.

Now, Damen announces the yard is rolling out an increased portfolio of vessels to a wider market audience. “Over the years we have achieved a good reputation for delivery time, reliability and quality,” said Executive Director at Damen Shipyards Group Hans Voorneveld about the yard on the Yangtze River.

Ship Takes Shape at Nordic Yards

At Nordic Yards a 390-ton section of a new wind turbine service jack-up vessel was laid down in the Wismar dock today as scheduled, marking a milestone in the building of the 80 x 32 m ship. The vessel was ordered last year by the Danish company DBB Jack-Up Services for the purpose of servicing offshore wind farms. "We are delighted to be witnessing this major step in the construction of our offshore vessel together with Nordic Yards today", said Thorsten Jalk, CEO at DBB Jack-Up Services.

China Rongsheng Delivers Fourth Vale VLOC

China Rongsheng Heavy Industries Group Holdings Limited has delivered the 380,000 dwt class Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC) 'Vale Caofeidian' to Brazil's Vale S.A. The vessel is the fourth 380,000 DWT class VLOC delivered by the Group this year and its eleventh delivery of VLOC's overall. The Chinese shipbuilders have successfully delivered 11 VLOCs, while most of those remaining have been launched and are under outfitting process. The next VLOC delivering to Vale is also at its final stage for sea trial.

Damen Shipyards Galati launch Nuclear Cargo Vessel 1600 for the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB). Damen Shipyards GalaĹŁi (DSGa) located in Romania, a member of Damen Shipyards Group, launched the specialist cargo ship which will replace her predecessor M/S Sigyn, which has been in service during the past 30 years. The vessel is designed and built by Damen, with Damen Shipyards Gorinchem (The Netherlands) providing the design and the major equipment and DSGa (Romenia) building and finishing the high-tech vessel.

The HARVEY CHAMPION was delivered on August 7th, 2012 after successfully completing dock trials, sea trials and DP trials. The HARVEY CHAMPION is the 10th vessel that Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc.

Rolls-Royce Wins Italian Shipyard Order

Rolls-Royce has signed an £18 million contract with Italian shipyard Rosetti Marino S.p.A for the design and delivery of an integrated power & propulsion and equipment system for an anchor handling vessel. The vessel will be built for Augusta Offshore S.p.A and is a repeat order of a Rolls-Royce UT 712 CD due to be delivered in June from the same yard. Due for delivery in mid 2014, the high tech vessel is specially designed and equipped for handling anchors and mooring lines in water up to 2000 metres deep. The vessel is also equipped to undertake oil recovery, fire fighting, stand by and rescue duties. Rolls-Royce will also supply the main engines, propulsion systems and gear, tunnel thrusters, rudders, deck machinery, electrical systems as well as automation and control systems.

Rolls Royce to Design, Power, Hi-tech Subsea Vessel

The versatile UT 737 CD vessel will support the most demanding subsea projects, including constructing and servicing oil and gas wells on the sea bed, up to 3,000 metres below sea level. In order to support such challenging missions the vessel will include special features, including two independent systems for launching and recovering Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), a 125 tonne offshore crane that compensates for wave movements and an advanced offshore tower which handles subsea equipment through a large opening in the hull of the vessel, called a moon pool. Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc. announced the early delivery of the Sisuag, the second of three  292-foot Tiger Shark Class Offshore Support Vessels, to Harvey Gulf International Marine LLC of New Orleans, La. Launched in October, the Sisuag is a DP II, SOLAS-approved, FIFI 1 Classed, AC diesel-electric powered, twin Z-drive propelled OSV. This high-tech vessel features four Cummins QSK60-DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier II diesel generator engines, rated 1825 Kw at 1,800 rpm.

Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers Tiger Shark OSV

Eastern Shipbuilding Group has announced the delivery of the HARVEY SUPPORTER, the first of three (3) 292 ft. Tiger Shark Class Offshore Support Vessels for Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC. The HARVEY SUPPORTER is an STX Marine design featuring a DP II SOLAS-classed AC diesel-electric, twin Z-drive Offshore Support Vessel measuring 292’ X 64’ X 24’-6”. Power and propulsion systems, controls, automation, etc. are provided by the system integrator, Converteam, Inc. This high-tech vessel features four Cummins QSK60-DM 16-cylinder turbo-charged Tier II diesel generator engines that are rated 1825 Kw at 1,800 rpm. Main propulsion is provided by two Schottel SRP 2020 FP Z-drives with nozzles rated at 2,500 Kw at 1,025 rpm each for a total of 6,704 hp.

FGH Delivers High Tech Vessel To Navy

Friede Goldman Halter (FGH) held the christening ceremony of USNS Impeccable on November 1 at its Pascagoula, MS shipyard. The vessel's mission will involve the collection, processing and transmission of acoustic data in support of the Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems (IUSS) mission requirements. Boasting a unique hull form, the 282-ft. (85.9 m) vessel will be operated by the Military Sealift Command (MSC) - utilizing both civilian and naval personnel. It is touted as the quietest vessel that the government operates, outside of submarines.

Leica Chosen As Supplier For Callan Marine

Callan Marine has selected Leica's MX 480 Professional Chart Navigator for the new Callan 55 high-performance luxury speedboat. Powered by twin 3,750-hp helicopter turbine engines with Arneson surface drives, the high-tech vessel features fly-by-wire controls built into the joystick handles and a custom touch-screen control panel. The first prototype of the project was revealed at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show held in November. An integrated navigation system - MX-480 includes a Leica MX 412B professional DGPS navigator. The system is reportedly the first model in the industry to be custom designed and rigged directly from 3D CAD design renderings.
