MMA Launches Third Graduate Degree, M.S. Maritime Business Management. The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has announced the launch of their third Graduate Degree, the Master of Science in Maritime Business Management. MMA developed the MSMB over a four-year period as a campus-wide collaborative effort with the Academic Dean, the Dean of Graduate & Continuing Education, the undergraduate International Maritime Business Department faculty and input gathered from employers, prospective students, the Graduate Education Council, and MMA graduate and undergraduate alumni. The MSMB program is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

Nigeria would be hosting the 3rd Conference of the Association of Heads of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA Conference) in Abuja, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, from 19th -21st of April,2017 in a bid to continue to improve on its role as a global player in the comity of maritime nations. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is holding meetings to seek public input on the Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement that analyzes potential impacts of oil and gas activities that could result from lease sales scheduled in the 2017-2022 Five Year Program for Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing. Public meetings provide an opportunity for people to learn more about the Five Year Program and the potential impacts of oil and gas leasing. Attendees can have one-on-one conversations with BOEM scientists, researchers and other staff to ask questions and share information. Attendees can also provide comments for the record at the meetings.

Holland America Line has appointed Denella Ri’chard to the position of director, trade communication and engagement. In this newly created role she is responsible for supporting travel agent partners worldwide, with particular focus on the United States and Canada. She oversees trade communications, the PartnerShips website, HAL Academy and all other internal and external training programs. Ri’chard, who is based in Seattle, Washington, at the Holland America Line headquarters, will report to Joe Slattery, senior vice president, global marketing and sales. “Denella’s impressive sales and marketing credentials, combined with her outstanding presentation skills, will be a tremendous asset to the Holland America Line organization,” said Slattery.

Hundreds of boat passengers bound for Leyte, Bohol and other parts of the Visayas got stranded  in the different ports of Cebu as the Cebu Coast Guard barred small vessels from traveling, say local media. This is due to a gale warning raised by the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in the Visayas. The authority has issues the order to disallow vessels weighing 250 gross tons or lower not to sail. As part of its five-year Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program: 2012-2017, BOEM informs it intends to prepare a supplemental environmental impact statement (EIS) for this Program's last proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas lease sale in the Central Planning Area (CPA) of the Gulf of Mexico. Proposed CPA Lease Sale 247 is tentatively scheduled to be held in 2017. BOEM proposes to offer for oil and gas leasing approximately 46 million acres in the CPA, with the exception of the whole and portions of blocks deferred by the Gulf of Mexico Security Act of 2006 and the blocks that are beyond the United States’ Exclusive Economic Zone in the area known as the northern portion of the Eastern Gap.
