World's First: Methane Oxidation Catalyst System Gets AIP

A methane oxidation catalyst system developed by Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), and Yanmar Power Technologies Co. Alfa Laval Tallies LPG Fuel Supply Systems Order in Japan

Alfa Laval said it has won an order for three units of the Alfa Laval FCM LPG, the low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) developed in partnership with MAN Energy Solutions.The LFSS order was signed in December 2020 with IMEX Co., Ltd., which builds MAN Energy Solutions licensed engines in Japan as a subsidiary company of Hitachi Zosen Corporation. ADS Crude Carriers Sells Another VLCC

Oslo-listed ADS Crude Carriers has signed a memorandum of agreement to sell the Very Large Crude Carrier ADS Serenade.ADS said Tuesday the vessel would be sold for $25.5 million. Floating Windpower Partnership Formed

Japanese engineering giant Hitachi Zosen Corp and French marine renewables technology outfit  Naval Energies will work together in the field of floating wind power.The French marine renewables specialist said in a press release that the two companies will design and build floating wind turbines with a capacity of several hundred megawatts off the Japanese coast using Naval Energies' semi-submersible floating solution, which is a concrete, steel or a hybrid combination fixed to the seabed by an anchoring system that controls its movements.The project between the two companies is based on a feasibility study to jointly design and build…

ClassNK CMAXS for Two MOL Ships

ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd. developed next-generation diagnostic monitoring system “ClassNK CMAXS” has been chosen by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for installation on two more ships operated by the company. The system is now installed on a total of six MOL-operated ships. The two ships are installed with CMAXS e-GICSX, a system which monitors electrically controlled main engine supplied by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and CMAXS LC-A for auxiliary engines supplied by DAIHATSU DIESEL MFG. CO, LTD. Both CMAXS systems operate simultaneously, gathering information from VDR, data logger and main engine. This information (Big Data) is consolidated on a common platform for analysis and the potential future improvement.

ClassNK, Hitachi Zosen Study Engine Monitoring, Diagnostics

Classification society ClassNK and Hitachi Zosen Corporation have completed a joint study of the next generation condition-based monitoring and automatic diagnostic system ClassNK CMAXS LC-A for Hitachi MAN B&W engines. During the study, ClassNK and Hitachi Zosen Corporation developed a system compatible with Hitachi MAN B&W engines and conducted verification tests on one bulk carrier installed with a Hitachi MAN B&W engine. The system for Hitachi MAN B&W engines combines and analyzes big data from the ship’s data logger. Using the analyzed results, the system can produce trend graphs of components/function conditions to prevent serious damage at an early stage. The system also displays appropriate maintenance information such as work procedures and instructions automatically.

MHI Hybrid Turbochargers Awarded for Efficiency

Hybrid Turbocharger developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME), received the President Award 2015 in the 36th Energy-Efficient Machinery Award from Japan Machinery Federation (JMF). This Hybrid Turbocharger, which incorporates high speed generator motor in Mitsubishi MET Turbocharger, can convert excessive exhaust gas energy of large marine diesel engine into electric power efficiently and flexibly. Furthermore, it can turn into motoring mode so that turbocharger rotor can be accelerated by external electric power. This can supply more air with lower electric power than conventional auxiliary blower makes.

Hitachi Gas Supply System Order for MHI

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order from Hitachi Zosen Corporation for a high-pressure gas supply system enabling use of natural gas as fuel in marine engines. In lieu of conventional heavy oil, the system supplies liquefied natural gas (LNG), injected under high pressure, to the engine. This configuration curbs emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2), thus contributing to reduction of environmental loads. Delivery of the system is scheduled for the second half of 2016, for installation at Hitachi Zosen's Ariake Works in Nagasu-machi, Kumamoto Prefecture. Japanese Consortium to Build Offshore Wind Farm

A consortium of ten companies led by Hitachi Zosen Corporation (Hitz) has been awarded the bid to develop the “Iwafune Offshore Wind Farm Project” in Murakami City, Niigata prefecture. The award is the result of a public bidding held by Murakami City’s project promotion committee, chaired by the city’s mayor, Hiramasa Otaki, says a press statement. The project will use 44 5MW turbines developed by Hitachi, with a total power generating capacity of 220MW. The 5MW turbine is the most powerful commercially available turbine in Japan at present, and it is anticipated the project could produce 670GWh annually. First ME engine built in Japan by HZ

The first ME engine to be built in Japan, a 6S50ME-C, has been completed by Hitachi Zosen Corporation. The order was placed by Naikai Zosen for Nissho Shipping. The engine was recently presented to the guests at a ceremony at Hitachi Zosen. This engine is destined as the main propulsion engine for a product carrier. The invited audience of over 200 people, included owners, operators, yard personnel and business partners, noted that the engine was very quiet and produced very few vibrations.
