NTMA Holds Graduation Ceremony for Year 2021 Graduates

On November 18, a graduation ceremony was held for 108 2021-year graduates was held at the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy (NTMA), a merchant marine university jointly operated by NYK and the Transnational Diversified Group (TDG) near Manila, Philippines. The ceremony had originally been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.Due to the pandemic, NTMA switched to online classes when dormitory life and on-campus classes were not feasible, and the students completed the classroom curriculum without delay.

NYK to Send 110 Workers to Help with Clean-up after Wood-chip Carrier Breaks Apart off Japan

Japanese shipping firm NYK plans to send 110 employees in total by September 11 to help with the clean-up at the area where the NYK-chartered Crimson Polaris wood-chip carrier ran aground earlier this month, dropping cargo and spilling oil into the sea as the hull of the vessel split in two.NYK said Tuesday it would make a total of 11 dispatches of 10 employees each by September 11 to assist with the area clean-up."As the charterer of the vessel, NYK has sent company personnel to the site to assist with the clean-up of the cargo and other debris that has washed ashore.

Japan’s First LNG Bunkering Vessel Named at Sakaide Works

A naming ceremony was held for Japan’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel at Kawasaki Heavy Industries' Sakaide Works shipyard, on Wednesday.The ship, named Kaguyais, the first LNG bunkering vessel to be operated in Japan. Kaguya will be operated by Central LNG Marine Fuel Japan Corporation and will be based at JERA's Kawagoe Thermal Power Station. Kaguya will begin supplying LNG fuel to ships in the Chubu region in October or later this year using ship-to-ship bunkering.The 81.7-meter-long vessel was named by Yukikazu Myochin, President of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

Mitsui LNG Carrier Named Marvel Falcon

On March 29, a naming ceremony was held at Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. in Korea, for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier that NYK has concluded a long time-charter contract with Mitsui & Co. Ltd. At the ceremony, the ship was named “Marvel Falcon” by Mr. Tatsuo Yasunaga, president and chief executive officer of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place was cut by Mr. Yasunaga’s wife. New Global Brand for LNG Bunkering: Gas4Sea

ENGIE, Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK Line have launched Gas4Sea, a new brand for their joint marketing of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel around the world. Gas4Sea aims to lead innovation through the ship-to-ship supply of LNG for the maritime sector. In 2014, ENGIE, Mitsubishi Corporation and NYK concluded a framework agreement for a partnership to develop LNG bunkering services. By combining NYK’s shipping expertise with ENGIE and Mitsubishi Corporation’s LNG supply portfolio and terminal access under the brand Gas4Sea, the partners will offer a cleaner, reliable, safe and cost-effective service to shipping customers worldwide. KNOT Name New Shuttle Tankship

Knutsen NYK Offshore Tankers AS (KNOT) name their new tankship 'Ingrid Knutsen' in a ceremony in Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipyard. The ceremony was attended by KNOT president Trygve Seglem, NYK senior managing corporate officer Hitoshi Nagasawa, and NYK corporate officer Svein Steimler, among others. The 112,000 dwt shuttle tanker, which is equipped with a class II dynamic positioning system and a bow-loading system, was named Ingrid Knutsen, and will be used to transport North Sea crude oil to shore.

NYK To Expand LNG Fleet

Nippon Yusen K.K., the largest Japanese shipping line, reportedly plans to order 20 new liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers by 2010 and use five or six tankers for spot contracts, a change in strategy that may bring higher returns. The company will fund the purchase of 15 of the ships jointly with customers with whom it has long-term contracts, said Hitoshi Nagasawa, head of Nippon Yusen's LNG group. It may use new or existing ships for the spot market and will be the sole owner of those ships.
