Miami-based shiplift supplier Pearlson Shiplift Corporation reports it has secured four contracts within the past nine months, boosting its order backlog to more than $200 million.A privately held company with a global presence, Pearlson Shiplift Corporation engineers and delivers complex shiplift and transfer systems for both military and commercial shipyards.Recent orders include shiplift systems for BAE Systems – Jacksonville Ship Repair, the Korean Coast Guard and Horizon Yacht Company, as well as one undisclosed project to be announced in the coming months.

The U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday medevaced a crewmember from the offshore support vessel RMS Citation approximately seven miles offshore Corpus Christi, Texas.Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a request for medevac for a 45-year-old male who was experiencing arm pain and shortness of breath. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac."We are grateful we were able to get the mariner to the medical attention he needed," said Lt. Swiss multinational equipment manufacturer Liebherr Group said that its cranes erected the prototype of what is currently the most powerful offshore wind turbine in the world in the Dutch port of Rotterdam.The gondola of the wind turbine, which measures an overall 207 meters in height, has a net weight of 675 tonnes. It was the heaviest load for the two Liebherr crawler cranes used for the job. Millions of dollars of goods are transported up and down the Mississippi every year. This transportation is made possible, in part, by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mat Sinking Unit and its crew, who work tirelessly each season to protect the riverbanks with concrete mats and prevent erosion.The Mat Sinking Unit was built in 1940, widened in 1960 and is being replaced over the next several years with new and improved plant. Royal Norwegian Navy conducts an operation to partially raise the sunken vessel HNoMS Helge Ingstad, starting from February 26. The operation is estimated to take five to six days.The Norwegian frigate was involved in a collision with the oil tanker Sola TS just outside the coast northwest of Bergen in western Norway on November 8, 2018. Many operations have been made aiming to prevent the vessel from sinking.The operation has been delayed many times due to weather conditions. In order for the operation to be conducted safely, wind and waves must be calm for the duration of the operartion. "Forecasts indicate that the needed weather window occurs now – and the operation was initiated early morning Tuesday 26 February.

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew rescued three men after they became stranded by the rising tide at Indian Beach, Wednesday.   The helicopter crew from Sector Columbia River safely hoisted the men and transported them to Canon Beach Fire Department personnel waiting on shore. Sector watchstanders received a report from Seaside 911 dispatchers with a request for assistance at 12:20 p.m. after the three men, who were fishing in tide pools, became stranded due to high tide. There were no reported injuries at the time of the rescue.

Guardian Couplings has launched the new curved jaw flange (JF) K45 Series shaft-to-shaft coupling with a bolt-on disc for use with brake calipers. The new torsionally flexible coupling is designed for industrial applications including various types of cranes and hoists, winches, and mining conveyors, reclaimers and draglines. Five models are available with bore sizes from 0.87 in. to 4.92 in. diameter and braking torque ratings from 8,310 in.lbs. to 63,720 in.lbs. The coupling’s brake disc and flexible spider element can be easily replaced during assembly.

Lifting Gear Hire (LGH) has acquired the Aberdeen-based hire division of JD Neuhaus (JDN) Ltd., a manufacturer of hoists and crane systems for extreme environments. JDN, headquartered in Germany, will retain its other U.K. divisions, including sales and repair, and will remain an LGH supplier. The value of the transaction was not disclosed. The acquisition, which comes less than a year after LGH re-launched in the U.K. after a 10-year sabbatical, further enhances the company’s fleet of JDN products, principally air operated hoists.

Marine Travelift Inc. announced that Newport Shipyard has purchased a customized 200CII mobile boat hoist for its Newport, R.I. facility. When it’s delivered this fall, the machine will join the 70-, 100- and 500-ton Marine Travelift hoists currently in operation. The new 200CII boasts the first top-beam extension on a Marine Travelift 200-ton hoist and has been designed to use piers that were dedicated to a 100-ton machine and to travel into an indoor workspace. According to Eli Dana, Newport Shipyard’s General Manager, the yard was facing two challenges that prompted the 200CII purchase. “We’ve had increased demand from commercial customers, whose vessels are too heavy for the 100-ton hoist and are more difficult to schedule for the 500-ton due to space restrictions,” Dana explained.

The IMO Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 23) sets out the principal requirements for the rigging of pilot ladders. An injured fisherman was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday 62 miles east of Cape May, N.J. A crew member from the fishing vessel Stacy Lee called Coast Guard watchstanders at approximately 12:45 a.m. to request assistance for a crew member who suffered a leg injury. A Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene and hoisted the man at approximately 2:40 a.m., and transferred him to EMS personnel at the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, N.J. “The crew of the fishing boat did a good job administrating first aid to the survivor…

A man believed to be suffering symptoms from a heart attack was medevaced from a tugboat Thursday morning. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Traverse City, Mich., hoisted the man suffering chest pains from tug Joyce L. Vanenkevort. The tug was forced to alter its course to facilitate the evacuation due to heavy storms in the area and rendezvoused with the Coast Guard helicopter crew once conditions allowed. Weather conditions also diverted the helicopter crew from its original destination of Sturgeon Bay Airport, but the crew arrived safely at Ephraim-Fish Creek Airport in Ephraim, Wisc., where emergency medical crews were waiting.
