Netherlands Maritime Technology Association Launched

The Netherlands Maritime Technology association has been officially launched on the international stage during the Holland Day at SMM on September 9. Sjef van Dooremalen, Chairman of Netherlands Maritime Technology, unveiled the new name onboard the LCF Zr. Ms. Evertsen in Hamburg to an audience of 250 guests. A new promo video about the Dutch maritime technological sector was also shown. On a national level, the association, company and foundation for the maritime technological sector have been operating under this new joint name since May 8, 2014.

The Netherlands: Maritime Nation Thrives Despite Downturn

The Netherlands maritime sector has fared relatively well despite turbulent conditions brought about globally by 2008’s financial crisis. The country’s marine businesses combine for an annual turnover near $25 billion, compiling upwards of 2.5% of Dutch earnings. Dutch Shipbuilders Held Fast in Difficult 2012

The Holland Shipbuilding Association say that the various shipbuilding sectors presented a mixed picture in the past year, ship repair & supereyact construction did well, not so large new-buildings. Although Dutch shipbuilders had a tough year in 2012, they were generally able to hold their own. Output did suffer though. Deliveries from Dutch shipyards amounted to 95 seagoing vessels – a total of nearly 335,046 CGT with a value in excess of one billion euros. About 58% of the seagoing ships produced in the Netherlands in 2012 were destined for export. The amount of new orders placed during 2012 reflected the depressed global market situation, with a decrease of 35% in value terms compared to 2011. 61 new seagoing ships were ordered in 2012, totalling 166,471 CGT.

2012 was a challenging year for the Dutch shipbuilding industry. In general, the industry was able to achieve relatively good results. The various shipbuilding categories however showed a mixed picture. Holland Shipbuilding Association hereby presents you a statistical overview of the Dutch shipbuilding cluster in 2012. Although Dutch shipbuilders had a tough year in 2012, they were generally able to hold their own. Output did suffer though. Deliveries from Dutch shipyards amounted to 95 seagoing vessels – a total of nearly 335,046 CGT with a value in excess of €1 billion.

HME to Open Singapore Branch

HME’s Singapore Branch Office will be officially launched on March 15 by the Dutch ambassador, H.E. Johannes W.G. Jansing, at his residence in Singapore. The opening coincides with one of Asia's most established and proven maritime trade exhibitions, Asia Pacific Maritime 2012. HME Singapore has been set up to further support the international maritime trade between South-East Asia and the Netherlands. The office will act as a hub for maritime companies on both ends and will facilitate the already excellent relations between the Netherlands and South-East Asia. HME Singapore is supported by the Maritime by Holland Trade Council and Holland Shipbuilding Association.

Marine Propulsion Course with Professor Woud

The first module in the Marine Propulsion Course will start on 22 and 23 September.
