Van Oord’s heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen will receive a major upgrade. Among other improvements, the gantry crane will be extended by 25 meterss, making the vessel ready to handle the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects.The extension of the gantry crane, the most eye-catching upgrade, makes the Svanen one of the largest heavy-lift installation vessels worldwide.The extension, weighing 1200 tonnes, will be constructed by Holland Shipyards and installed using a 200-meter-high Mammoet crane.

Future Proof Shipping Converting Second Vessel to Run on Hydrogen

Future Proof Shipping's inland container vessel FPS Waal has arrived at Holland Shipyards Group's yard in Werkendam, the Netherlands for the start of its conversion to enable operations on zero-emissions hydrogen power.Building upon the foundation laid by Future Proof Shipping's previously converted FPS Maas—now H2 Barge 1—all the vessel’s internal combustion engines will be removed and a new fully zero-emissions propulsion system, including PEM fuel cells, hydrogen storage, battery packs and an electric drive train will be installed.

Dutch shipping company Future Proof Shipping (FPS) on Thursday officially launched the first hydrogen-powered zero-emissions inland container ship, H2 Barge 1, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.Earlier in the week, Nike introduced the H2 Barge 1 at its European Logistics Campus in Laakdal, Belgium. Holland Shipyards Group, AYK Energy in Zero-emission Container Ship Retrofit Collaboration

Holland Shipyards Group (HSG) and AYK Energy have signed a deal for AYK Energy to make batteries for the zero-emission container ship FPS Waal.AYK Energy founder Chris Kruger said the company was increasing production at its factory in Zhuhai, China, to supply the retrofit project at HSG's shipyard in Werkendam. Under the contract, AYK will supply two high-density DNV-approved Aries 88 lithium batteries to the vessel. Holland Shipyards Wins Order for Three Coastal Vessels

As partner of the Dutch-based Hudig & Veder Group, Hartel Shipping & Chartering, has awarded Holland Shipyards Group for the delivery of three newbuild MPP coasters of 3.800 DWT.The new Conoship-designed vessels measure 89.42 meters by 13.2 meters and will have a cargo hold capacity of 5.530 cubic meters and a tween deck to allow for increased project cargo capacity.Hartel Shipping has opted for a diesel-electric drivetrain, allowing for running on sustainable fuels now and later on in the future.

Sweden's Trafikverket Orders Autonomous Electric Ferries

Holland Shipyards Group said it signed a contract with the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket Sweden) for the delivery of up to four autonomous all-electric ferries. The vessels, which will be built for the agency's ferries unit Trafikverket Färjerederiet, will sail according to autonomy level 2, and will be controlled from the remote control center based in Stockholm.The signed contract includes the delivery of two ferries with four automooring facilities and two charging stations, a simulator facility and a remote control center.

Dutch marine battery system supplier EST-Floattech has delivered 1092kWh of battery capacity for new, full-electric ferry Wellingdorf in a contract with system integrator Holland Ship Electric. German propulsion specialist SCHOTTEL said it has delivered main propulsion units for a 42-meter ferry being built by the Netherlands-based Holland Shipyards Group. Holland Shipyards Group recently delivered a newbuild hybrid ferry Gaarden to Schlepp- und Fährgesellschaft Kiel (SFK) in Germany. Holland Shipyards to Build Electric Double-Ender Ferry

Norwegian ferry operator Brevik Fergeselskap has ordered a new electric passenger/ vehicle double-ender ferry from Holland Shipyards in Hardingxveld-Giessendam.The keel laying ceremony of the electric ferry has taken place on Wednesday February 12, 2020 at Holland Shipyards Group.The event was attended by both the board of Brevik Fergeselskap and Holland Shipyards Group. Mr. Bjørge Fredheim from Brevik Fergeselskap had the honor of welding a part of the section.After a joint engineering process, the ceremony signifies the start of the actual building phase of the project.The vessel, the first fully electric ferry for Brevik Fergeselskap, will operate within the waters of Eidangerfjorden. The ferry service connects Brevik with Sandøya and Bjørkøya.

Hatenboer-Water Reverse Osmosis Units For Diving Support Barges

Holland Shipyards has asked Hatenboer-Water to supply two Tethys reverse osmosis (RO) water treatment  units for diving support barges scheduled to be deployed along the Gabon coast. The order marks the first project for Tethys, the new Hatenboer-Water standard water maker series for compact applications. The RO units are to be installed aboard two diving support barges currently under construction in the Holland Shipyards’ site in Hardinxveld-Giessendam, the Netherlands. Each unit will provide drinking water at a capacity rate of up to 6 m3 per day.

Holland Shipyards Selects ShipConstructor

Holland Shipyards has selected SSI's ShipConstructor software for its new shipbuilding activities. Holland Shipyard undertakes newbuilding, repair and conversion of small and medium-sized vessels. Florian den Besten, Naval Architect with Holland Shipyards, explained his company's thinking when purchasing new CAD/CAM software. He said, "First of all, the system is user-friendly as ShipConstructor is AutoCAD based and contains all features needed by our architects. Secondly, the architects appreciate the ease of making 2D drawings with the MarineDrafting application of the ShipConstructor Hull Structure Premium Suite. The 2D drawings are used for workshop and classification drawings. The simplification of the technical drawings, by using appropriate symbols, makes them clear and readable.

The naming of Service Support Vessel DP Gezina in Hardinxveld – Giessendam was performed by Mrs. Gezina Roelofs, and witnessed by the 200 guests attending the event. Mrs. Gezina Roelofs is the mother of the owner of Chevalier Floatels, Marcel Roelofs. With Chevalier Floatels new flagship, DP Gezina completed, both Chevalier Floatels and Holland Shipyards companies have added another vessel to their track record. During the conversion the vessel was lengthened by nine meters and sponsons were added to improve the sea keeping and make the vessel more comfortable for those onboard.

Fugro Brazil, Scaldis and Holland Offshore Join MirTac and Star

Recently, MirTac added three offshore contractors to its Star user group: the Fugro Marine Services BV business unit in Brazil, Scaldis Antwerp and Holland Offshore. The Star fleet management software is used worldwide on rigs, subsea solutions, ships and maritime offices linking locations seamlessly. Fugro Marine Services BV, already a MirTac customer for years, chose to also implement Star in her new office in Brazil and on the new-build Survey Vessel Fugro Brasilis. Fugro Marine Services primarily uses Star for maintenance and safety management, documentation, purchasing and spare parts management. Implementation for the Brazilian office and Fugro Brasilis has already started according to Maarten van Slobbe, Manager CMS at Fugro Marine Services B.V.

Offshore Get-together in Flushing Port

Last December 12th, Holland Offshore’s newbuild Dutch Blue arrived in Flushing, the Netherlands, towing the pontoon NP 328 which transported 6 hulls owned by Ruyven. This trip has been the maiden voyage of the Dutch Blue; a towing / support vessel built under Dutch flag regulations and owned by Holland Offshore, part of the Holland Shipyards Group. The vessel has a length of 52,8 m, a width of 13,2 m, a bollard pull well over 50 tons and is propelled by means of two Wärtsillä 8L20 main engines, which deliver a combined 4300 hp capacity. The vessel has a complement of 37 persons.
